Shared street names with the City[edit]

I've noticed a lot of street names in Mortdale are taken from streets in the city (Pitt Street, George St, Martin Place etc). I think it's worth noting this in the article, but I can't find a source that states why they're named that way, or if it's even intentional. Does anyone have a light to shine on this? Morty[edit]

I live in the local area and I've often heard Mortdale colloquially referred to as 'Morty' but this has been challenged and removed by another user. I have found references on the internet referring to Mortdale Hotel and Mortdale RSL as the 'Morty Pub' and Morty RSL. I have also found a few examples on various blogs where Mortdale is referred to as Morty. maybe some other locals can back me up here. J Bar (talk) 00:19, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Morty is commonly used by older generations in the area. Many of them call the Mortdale shopping centre Morty. Of course, Morty Pub is legendary around these parts for the Mortdale Hotel but I've also heard the people refer to the Morty RSL or 'Morty Rissole'. I have lived in the area all my life (37 years) and specifically in Mortdale for 19 years...whoever has challenged that Morty is not a common name for the suburb does not converse with the locals/residents...Morty Pub, Morty Rissole, "Morty" is a common phrase on the street...I agree I have never heard of Mortdelly and Mortdarl???? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.50.154.165 (talk) 01:20, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
