Australian Slang[edit]

The Australian slang derogatory word is spelt MOLE not MOLL. It is also pronounced mole, like pole, not moll like toll. The assumption is that the term is derived from Moll, but we have changed the spelling - whether logically or not. From the Macquarie (Australian) dictionary: mole //noun Colloquial moll (def. 2). From the Australian Oxford dictionary: Mole n. colloq. derog. girl or woman. (probably a variant of moll girl or woman.) So in both dictionaries it says that the Aussie slang term is spelt mole not moll. --Silversmith Hewwo 04:23, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Macquarie Dictionary does not recognise the MOLE spelling. It is definitely MOLL. From the Macquarie dictionary: Moll n. colloq. 1. the girlfriend of a mistress or thief 2. the girlfriend of a surfie, bikie, etc. 3. a prostitute.
Or has been updated in the lately? This may be something that has changed/developed which as you say is not logical but may need to be addressed. After "Game on, Molls!" became a catchcry on TV reality show Big Brother, T-shirts hit the market with "Game on, Moles!" printed on them. Recently, Nova 96.9 radio station had a long running segment called "Mole Patrol" and even had a car patrolling Sydney with "Mole Patrol" printed on the side. http://pics.nova100.com.au/galleries/mole-patrol-turf-war-photos
So, I acknowledge that we need to include the mole spelling. J Bar (talk) 05:29, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In any case, disambiguation pages (and wikipedia in general) are not guides to usage, slang or otherwise. Disambiguation pages disambiguate between articles that might share the same title. olderwiser 12:52, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation page[edit]

I have no idea why older insists this is a disambiguation page for surnames as it deals with such esoterica as musical scales, grapes, slang terms, etc. If you wish to create another disambig for just surnames - by all means do do and have this point there. At this point, it appears to simply be a plain disambiguation page which doesn't need further classification. --71.110.67.204 (talk) 04:38, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the documentation for Template:Disambig. In particular the section on parameters. olderwiser 11:46, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. I stand corrected. --71.110.67.204 (talk) 15:15, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
