Merger proposal[edit]

Recommend Michael L. Weinstein be merged with/into MRFF article. Weinstein's sole notability lies in his connection to the MRFF. Quis separabit? 08:27, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have to disagree on this, he is clearly a notable and influential activist, journalist and author. Clearly he has an area of activism but even within his focus he is approaching different topics so is not a one trick pony. It's kind of inevitable that his foundation is mentioned along side his name, as an author might be referred to by their bestseller, it's a shorthand for his activism. Nobel nominations[edit]

The article includes the sentence On November 13, 2014, for the sixth consecutive year, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation was officially nominated once again for the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize (its seventh total nomination) This is a problem for a number of reasons:

It is a boastful claim sourced to the MRFF itself, a first-party source, which is a no-no.
Nobel Peace Prize nominations are actually not notable. This isn't like the Academy Awards, where by "nomination" we mean "on the short list". There are literally hundreds of thousands of people, possibly millions, who can nominate a person or group for the prize.
Nobel Peace Prize nominations are not fully verifiable in the short term; the Nobel folks don't release the list of nominees for fifty years.
The sentence is a mess, making it sound like its been nominated 6 or 7 times for the 2015 award. It's repetitive, "for the sixth consecutive year" "once again". It lacks closing punctuation. And is "officially nominated" any different from "nominated"?

For these reasons (mostly for reasons 1 and 2), the sentence should be deleted. I'm avoiding article editing at this point, but I ask that other editors review the matter and, if they agree, delete the sentence. --Nat Gertler (talk) 14:06, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
