Born in the US?[edit]

The actress of this article appears to be the same Miko Mayama that dated Burt Reynolds in the 1960s and 1970s. At least both IMDB and Reynolds' autobiography "But Enough About Me" make this assertion. However, information from these two sources then raise a question: both IMDB and this article claim that Mayama was born in the United States, but IMDB and Reynolds' book also state that Mayama knew almost no English when she met Reynolds and that she moved to the United States from Japan to be with Reynolds. Yes, it's possible that she was born in the US and moved to Japan as an infant (similar to Bruce Lee's move to Hong Kong from San Francisco shortly after birth) . . . but I would say that this information at least puts into question the article's current assertion that she was born in the United States.

That being said, Reynolds' book cannot be said to be completely reliable. On page 108, he indicates that he met Mayama in 1969 but her appearances on American television are known to have begun several years before that. On page 109 of his book, Reynolds mentions Mayama's appearance on Star Trek, but that would have been in 1967. Typo in Reynolds' book? Miko Mayama has a strong Japanese accent signifying she did not have any sustained American education at a young age. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:45:4100:5EC0:DDBB:B568:DCAD:4AD9 (talk) 00:12, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

She may well have met Reynolds on the film Impasse, as they both had parts. However it seems implausible that he brought her from Japan at that point, as she had been acting in US TV before this. PatGallacher (talk) 23:58, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
