Metrication[edit]

Regarding this statement : "The second edition of the guide (1973) was completely metric. Metrication is a patriotic measure designed to help end our cultural isolation and ease our chronic balance of payments problems."" Does anyone if I re-write this? I do not agree with Tom Kelliher's statement regarding the Controvery section "This section was completely inaccurate. Mid State Trail Association works closely with all its State agency partners. Tom Kelliher, President," I am going to restore the section. The following are the facts. If you have a disagreement with MSTA, please do me the courtesy of contacting me at kelliher@goucher.edu or (410) 931-2946. I am most interested in discussing issues with other user groups and agency officials. Unless you can provide information allowing others to verify your statements, you have no right posting them here (refer to Wikipedia's verifiability policy).

MSTA received permission from the Rothrock District for the Thwaites monument. Feel free to contact them at (814) 643-2340 to verify. We have received no notice that it is slated for removal. From whom did you receive this information?

My involvement with MSTA only goes back to 2000, but during the intervening years we have always submitted relocation proposals to the appropriate BOF district and awaited approval before proceeding with relocations. The MSTA does not own the trail, we care for it and publish the map and guide set. We do not have the right to locate the trail wherever we please.

Mid State Trail is one of 18 DCNR-designated State Forest Hiking Trails. By DCNR policy, the State Forest Hiking Trails are all primarily footpaths.

MSTA only crosses private property when it has secured an easement or permission of some kind. To do otherwise would be highly unethical, not to mention illegal.

My quick perusal of Sec. 135.41 of Title 58 of the Pennsylvania code didn't uncover any requirement that hikers purchase hunting licenses in order to traverse State gamelands. Please cite your source for this requirement. --Tpkelliher 01:41, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trailheads[edit]

The info box lists Trailheads, but shouldn't that be Trailends? There are many trailsheads on the Mid State at places it crosses roads or other trails. --Ray 10:18, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rattlesnake Experiences[edit]

The rattlesnake experiences section is written in first person and should be re-written. Also, I think the whole section is a lot of just anecdotal evidence that really does not belong in an article. --Ray (talk)
