This page should be updated. She has a new single that came out recently called "Latin Moon". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.70.40.206 (talk) 21:39, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 11 December 2011[edit]

PLease change Burning peak position from 57 to 43 because this week accordin to Billboard http://www.billboard.com/#/charts/canadian-hot-100?begin=41&order=position it occupies this position.

Birthday[edit]

As confirmed by a search of "Mia Martina birthday" turning up a number of tweets (all from verified accounts, with one tweet being from herself), Martina's birthday is incredibly likely to January 14th.

Her birth year is where things get interesting.

I have found 2 different news sources that allude to Martina's birth year:

  • This news article (in French) reports her age in June 2012 to be 28, making her birth year 1984. At the time of the article's publication, Wikipedia listed Martina's birth year as 1984, which makes me concerned about circular reporting, although these concerns are slightly dampened by the fact that the article is in French and is therefore less likely to use English Wikipedia as a source (side note: why is it that a Canadian signer doesn't have a French wikipedia page?!?!).
  • This news article which reports her age in September 2017 to be 29, suggesting that her birth year would actually be 1988. At the time of the article's publication, Wikipedia listed Martina's birth year as 1984, although it appears as if the Wikipedia page was changed right around the article's publication time. It is possible that this change was made by someone in the Niagra region after reading the article, though, and not by someone making a change before the article was published. Again, I have concerns about possible circular reporting.

Finally, I also did a bit of estimation. Martina's first single was released in 2010. Working backwards, I estimate 1 year to produce the single, 1 year for Martina to express her desires to sing[1], 2 years completing a master's degree in psychology at Carleton University[2][3], 4 years completing a bachelor's degree at Carleton University[4], and 18 years before attending Carleton[5], making her age at the time her single was released approximately 26. Thus, her birth year would have been approximately 1984.

In absence of any dissent in the next month or so, I will likely end up editing the page to state that January 14 1984 is Martina's birthday, with the previously mentioned article in French as a source.

Any thoughts from anyone else? Other sources that allude to Martina's birth year would be appreciated!

Wikipedia does not perform our own original research to guesstimate people's birthdates based on reverse engineering a calendar of assumptions as to how the phases of their lives unfolded. We give no birthdate at all in our articles until a reliable source can be added which verifies that birthdate by explicitly stating that exact birthdate — until reliable sources explicitly tell us what her exact birthdate is, we do not synthesize information from multiple sources to arrive at a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of those sources. Ah, thanks for letting me know! I guess the article will go without having a birthday for now. Hickland (talk) 00:50, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
