Year of birth[edit]

Melissa's year of birth was originally listed here as 1971. A list of bodybuilding births at http://www.bk-sportsmag.se/profil/fodelsedagar.htm gives her birth date as June 18, 1969. Her bio at http://www.melissacoates.net/about.com says "I started bodybuilding when I was 15 years old...", and then goes on to say "I had some good success as a junior, winning the Mid Canada Junior Girls title in 1985, and being the finalist the year before." This would seem to suggest that she started training no later than 1984. Since she says that she started training at age 15, the 1971 date is clearly incorrect. fbb_fan 00:29, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I went to high school with Melissa (Port Arthur Collegiate). I can tell you that without a doubt she was born in 1969. I can also tell you that she has a degree in Science, took steroids for years (big surprise), used to work out at Fitness Plus, owned by Dave Tofinetti, and that she actually was a pretty nice person. Session wrestlers category[edit]

Concerns about this categorisation were raised on OTRS, and after some brief research I couldn't find any sources backing up this categorisation. Accordingly, I have removed the article from the category. --bainer (talk) 12:22, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

She is not "officially" doing them now, but has definitely done so in the past. See [1] for some evidence. Note in particular the section "Melissa's travel dates". Also, a Google Groups search, [2], will turn up lots of matches. By the way, the link you provided to OTRS doesn't seem to show anything about either Melissa or the category, so I have no idea what concerns you are referring to. fbb_fan 02:24, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Objection to PROD[edit]

I have removed the PROD tag on the following grounds: - Subject appears to be notable given a cursory Goggle search. This does not necessarily mean that this article satisfies the increasingly draconian notability standards on Wikipedia, however I do feel that based on this, plus the article's listing in numerous groups and task forces, pretty much demands that this article go to WP:AFD, to allow a better consensus on the issue. I would nominate it myself, but out of protest regarding certain Wikipedia policies (not, as it happens, with relation to the PROD in question) I am currently choosing to edit without logging in; to my knowledge IPs cannot nominate for AFD. Far too many to list. My main problem is putting work into many articles (by many I mean more than 10K articles over my time with Wikipedia) only to have a lot of that work rendered moot because of changing policies. Plus there is a bias against certain articles (and I could include this one among them) based upon lack of Brittanica-level sources. It's too complex to go into, and my "real" talk page explains things in detail. As IPs are shared there's no point in doing so there. For the record, however, I should state that I am not under any sort of editing ban or anything like that, nor am I sockpuppeting. 68.146.81.123 (talk) 15:09, 15 July 2009 (UTC) PS. Birth year revisited[edit]

In the bodybuilding section reads: Coates began weightlifting at 15, and during that same year, she entered her first tennis competition in 1984
If this is considered true, then her birth year should probably be 1969. Her wrestling infobox has 1971, while header and regular infobox have 1974 (which is clearly wrong since the sources have 1971). Actually, there seems to be no source for that 1984 information. I guess we have to settle for 1971. There is a quote from her homepage with the year 1984 in the first section of this talk page, but current version of her homepage's bio does not have that year. 82.141.64.59 (talk) 04:28, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
