User:Scotschurch added comment on article - moved here[edit]

I am unsure how to flag questions about statements in these articles, so I hope someone sees my comments here and either corrects the entry accordingly or deletes my comments if I am wrong. I wonder what definition of "public institution" is being used. I am the minister of Scots' Church in the city centre and I know that our congregation, together with many others, was started well before the Athenaeum - in fact, our first minister Rev James Farbes was instrumental in starting the Mechanics Institute AFTER he founded the church. Are churches not considered to be "public institutions"?).

  • The Athaneum Club and the Athaneum Theatre are both situated (apart) in Collins St. Melbourne. There is no direct affiliation between the two organizations today - the two articles should probably remain separate. StephenSmith (talk) 18:56, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree. I do not think the were ever connected and I have two histories of the Melbourne Athenaeum. Athenaeum Club, Melbourne is certainly notable but it needs a lot of work. It should not be merged here. However, note that the Melbourne Athenaeum is more than the Athenaeum Theatre. --Bduke (Discussion) 22:10, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • The Athenaeum Club is distinct from the Athenaeum Theatre. The articles should remain separate. D023604 (talk) 01:12, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have stayed at the Athenaeum Club a number of times as a reciprocal and if anyone tried to suggest they became associated with a theatre, they would be shown out by the doorman :-) Thehughster (talk) 06:58, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have removed the merge tags, as there is clearly no support for a merge. I would point out however that the Melbourne Athenaeum is, and has been, far more than a Theatre. --Bduke (Discussion) 10:24, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page[edit]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Below is a list of links that were found on the main page:

Athenaeum Gallery[edit]

The Athenaeum Gallery as a central Melbourne venue was significant during the C20th in advancing the careers of many Australian artists. I have been assembling a chronological list here and it is getting rather long, but I am sure it will be as useful to others interested in Australian art history as I have found it in finding references to exhibitors there. Do other editors feel it wise that I create a separate article "Athenaeum Gallery" or "Athenaeum Gallery, Melbourne"? Thank you. Jamesmcardle(talk) 22:23, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
