Meganeuropsis synonymy[edit]

I see the assertion that M. americana is a jr synonym of M. permiana has now been sourced, however, Grimaldi and Engel don't actually source the assertion in Evolution of insects so it is hard to judge the veracity of their statement. A number of papers on griffenflies that have been put out in the last 5 years still treat them as separate species. Does anyone know when and by whom the synonymization was made?
