The earliest forms of social work activities were started in India from time immemorial. In ancient India, the nature of social service was that of charity. Mutual help and reciprocal relationship was very high in the community. People believed that "to serve man is to serve God" (manavaseva madhavaseva). People were encouraged to practice the virtue Dana. Dana was treated as a way of purifying the soul of alms-givers and it was a great relief to both the giver and the receiver. In the Rig Veda (Chapter 1 XIII, 2) which encourages charity by saying "May the one who gives, shine the most". Upanishad prescribed that every house holder must practice charity. I was unable to verify this material with the incomplete citations provided. Can you provide quotations from the source here? It sounds like this is talking about practices that were similar to modern social work, but were not actually part of what is considered the modern-day profession of medical social work. If that's the case, including it here is original research in the form of synthesis, which is not appropriate for an encyclopedia entry. Although interesting, unfortunately those details are probably extraneous to this article even if verifiable (which I'm still not sure they are). —PermStrump(talk) 20:03, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

In America primarily health social workers were called as sanitary visitor. There are other committees and relevant materials related to United Kingdom and India. These aren't added because to keep it simple and neutral. Most importantly to not receive them as copy paste assignments. For good faith purposes (to see the provided materials as reliable and sourced from said texts) a minute detail of Indian history from the book that can be corroborated is provided and the rest should be taken in good faith for not violating copyright. That link doesn't work. As for "the rest should be taken in good faith", this would be against WP's policies on reliable sources, verifiability, and original research. Any material added to the article that isn't supported in verifiable, reliable sources will be removed. —PermStrump(talk) 09:26, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
