FitzGerald's wife[edit]

My sources all say she was Juliana, whose surname and family are unknown. She is not to be confused with Juliana de Cogan, who married another member of the FitzGerald family. Juliana has since been replaced by a Joanna de Geneville who does not seem a likely candidate as the wife of the 2nd Lord of Offaly. There was a Joan/Joanna de Geneville who married Gerald FitzMaurice FitzGerald (died 1287), the great-grandson of Offaly! She was the daughter of Geoffrey de Geneville and Maud de Lacy, Baroness Geneville. The latter was born in 1230, making it biologically impossible for a daughter of hers to have married the 2nd Lord Offaly and to have given birth to a son in 1237!!!! The only other recorded Joan de Geneville was the wife of Roger Mortimer, 1st Earl of March. I notice that the editor who added Joanna did not cite any references which say she was the mother of Offaly's children.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 08:02, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
