Place of birth[edit]

Although the article on Delač at Croatian wikipedia lists his place of birth as Uskoplje, there are more sources listing his place of birth as Gornji Vakuf (including his profile at Inter Zaprešić, article published in Nacional, article published by Kupreški radio and his profile at sportnet.hr. As far as I can understand Gornji Vakuf is the Bosnian town where he was born, while Gornji Vakuf-Uskoplje is the name of the municipality encompassing Gornji Vakuf and nearby settlements (of which Uskoplje is one). Since we need to list the settlement where he was born, please do not revert this back to Uskoplje, at least not until some reliable source says so. Uskoplje is an ancient Croatian name for the city and Gornji Vakuf is a Turkish and nowadays Bosniak name which was imposed after Ottoman occupation. Yugoslavia kept inflicted Ottoman names. Today Croats call the city Uskoplje as they always did and Bosniaks use Ottoman occupational terminology. That is why today official name for the municipality and the city is Gornji Vakuf - Uskoplje to satisfy both sides so we can use that or we can use simply Uskoplje since we are talking about Croatian footballer but no way only Gornji Vakuf. I can guarantee you that Delač never talks about his home town as Gornji Vakuf nor any other local Croat. Godemir (talk) 17:20, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah okay, but as long as all the sources list his birthplace as Gornji Vakuf, this should stay that way. I assume he knows what his birthplace is called and that he would intervene if he saw it listed that way at his own club's website if he thought this was controversial and supposed to be called Uskoplje. As an alternative (since the place obviously has two names which are both in use, the situation might be compared to placenames in other multilingual countries), we may consider listing it as Gornji Vakuf-Uskoplje.
