Overlap with Horiba Ltd.[edit]

In response to the concern over the "Company Growth" section, I've renamed it to "Identifying opportunities". I hope this will help to focus attention on Masao Horiba's activities in developing the company, and signal that this is not intended to be the place for a general discussion of the history of the Horiba company. I would argue that some discussion of the products and expansion of the company under his leadership is essential to describing and understanding his achievements and importance.

Thanks for addressing the issues. My concern was not so much with the heading of the section (in fact I think "Company growth" describes that section better), but with its content, which I still feel goes into a bit too much detail about activities of the company rather than about Horiba himself. I understand that, as the founder and driving force behind the company, the narratives will inevitably be closely intertwined, but we must not forget that we already have a Wikipedia article on the Horiba company, which can go into more detail about the company's products and developments, so we need to be careful not to duplicate that article too much. I hope this clarifies the situation slightly. --DAJF (talk) 08:35, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I took a look at the company article, and at this point, the related content there is a three sentence paragraph: Horiba was founded in 1945 by Masao Horiba, who graduated in nuclear physics from Kyoto University. In the early 1950s, he started mass-production of pH meters; the present company was registered in 1953. From 1959 until 2002, Hitachi was a principal shareholder, and the two companies retain close connections. They don't mention any of the other developments that he was involved in. So I think the Masao Horiba article at this point is giving important information about the development of the company under his leadership, which the Horiba article doesn't cover. (It's much more focused on where they are now, rather than history.) Thanks! Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 12:56, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I did remove the following sentence, since it's probably sufficient to indicate that he started the Horiba company relationship with Hitachi, without going into details about how that company relationship expanded later: The Horiba company eventually produced all of Hitachi's analytical instrumentation under the joint name HITACHI-HORIBA. This also reduces any overlap between the pages. Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 13:03, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
