Original author: Please cite source for closure of MTV and PHV in 2016. Most sources i've seen reference 2010, but even that is regarded "tentative Pentagon planning", and the city government has no notice of closure at all. Kato2k6 10:13, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To be exact, me living in this concern and all, there is no percise date of closure for the Heidelberg posts, everything as of now is rumors. Tazz 07:35, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Mark Twain Village and the Campbell Barracks were closed in December 2013 and given back to the Federal Republic of Germany. Just look at google. This article is about history, not the present. --13Peewit (talk) 11:07, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

References, and handback[edit]

I've just added the 'references' tag to the article, because it gives none.

I was tempted to do something about the paragraph beginning 'Part of MTV's housing', but I don't know where to find the right answers. Among the things that concern me are:

  • 'back to the German economy' seems a very odd way of saying it: was a lease terminated, or was it sold or what?
  • 'saved $1800000' - per year? over the life of the base? in total? (and what does 'in the long term' mean here?)
  • 'it made sense to shut that area down' - that is original research and doesn't belong in WP. I could edit it, but it doesn't seem worth fixing just one thing. --ColinFine 20:56, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well the way it was written was probly from someone else that live in the area as many in the community call the main country "the economy". Which, yes, sounds very strange to someone who is external. I do think "returned to the host nation" would maybe be a better. But then again, none, to my knowledge of any part of this base has been shut down, everything is rumors about shutting down of the Heidelberg Garrison, the only thing that is confirmed is that it will sometime shut down as part of downsizing in Germany and of European Command. Please research and edit accordingly. Tazz 23:15, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mark Twain Elementary School[edit]

My two children, aged 6 and 8, were pupils at MTES in 1974/75. At that time I was the British Intelligence Sergeant at HQ AMF (L) at Hammond Barracks in Mannheim-Seckenheim. I was one of just a handful of British army personnel stationed in the Heidelberg area. My childrens' teachers were Ted Fruechting and Laura Dupont. I wonder if there is anyone out there who remembers the school at that time. MJS Burgess78.148.174.110 (talk) 11:31, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

YES! I was in Ted's class in 1974, 1975, and 1976 ! I think Laura's class was next door with a big hole in the wall between the classes to walk through. It was a progressive environment and super cool. I found and called Ted in 2000 and told him how much I enjoyed my K, 1st & 2nd grades. Was just Googling his name again when I came upon this Wikipedia entry. I'm sad to report that Ted has passed away recently according to posts I found. It's been 9 years since your post but maybe you will see my reply here. I'd be curious about your kid's first names. I still have a class pic somewhere. I can be reached at distantrumblings at g mail.

Sad update. Laura DuPont unfortunately passed away in 2017. https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/greenbaypressgazette/obituary.aspx?n=laura-dupont&pid=187815075 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.104.21.212 (talk) 20:48, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
