Last Sentence of "TV career"[edit]

Is seemingly impartial and non-sequitur - certainly not encyclopedic - removal anyone? Icosahedron (talk) 02:12, 25 September 2008 (UTC)Icosahedron (talk) 02:11, 25 September 2008 (UTC)Icosahedron[reply]

(No Subject)[edit]

Removed this quote as it lacks impartiality.

'Although seemingly well respected among his BBC peers, his 'predictions' on their football website often fail to justify this kudos. He is forever belittling towards so-called 'smaller' clubs in favour of adopting an altogether sychophantic approach to more media-favourable outfits, especially the 'big 4'. This had led to large sections of the football fan community not only being enraged by his comments, but also questioning the very-average defender's ability to offer incisive, impartial critiques of football.'

Libel/Vandalism[edit]

I deleted the following paragraph on the grounds that I can find no evidence to support its assertions and they are potentially libellous:

His career as a BBC pundit has been blighted by rumours that he spends his Friday nights cottaging in a forest close to the family home. This was denied and he was successful in his libel case against The Daily Echo. Half of the money won from this went to local cancer charities while the other half went on an expensive eternity ring for fellow commentator John Motson. The two now live together in sin.

He's a very sinister man, I don't trust him!

Irish ancestry[edit]

+ Both of Mark Lawrenson's parents were born in Lancashire, he does not have Irish parents. He qualified to play for the Republic of Ireland through his maternal grandfather Tommy Cotty, who was Irish. Ribbleton 16:21, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This chap has done his homework! --T.M.M. Dowd (talk) 16:39, 25 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I wish he were Irish. We might see and hear less of him in England if that were the case. Guv2006 (talk) 06:39, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Other clubs[edit]

+ Mark Lawrenson played for Barnet Football Club in February 1989 after leaving Oxford manager position. He made 2 conference league appearences. He left to player/coach Tampa Bay Rowdies but unable find details on ths. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.138.147.233 (talk) 07:20, 10 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Can we add the above details? both verified by Oxford site and Liverpool offical bio.

He was at Newcastle with Kenny Dalglish as a 'defensive coach' before returning to punditry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.77.212.153 (talk) 19:55, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the Barnet info pending actual links. No mention on Liverpool site (http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/team/past_players/players/lawrenson/). Imagine Reason (talk) 04:16, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lawro also played for Corby Town FC at the end of his career. I do not recall him playing for either Barnet or Oxford. 88.97.231.206 (talk) 00:48, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

External Links[edit]

https://www.lawropreds.co.uk has been launched directly in relation to Lawro's BBC premiership prections. I feel strongly that websites such as these merit a place on a page dicussing the man. Search his name on google and there are hundreds of forums lambasting his football predictions - surely public opinion deserves a place on a description of a public figure? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.213.240.1 (talk) 15:55, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here, here! Why is it perfectly acceptable to publish the sentiments of press rumours in the profiles of many individuals yet public opinion on them is suppressed. I thought Wikipedia was supposed to be neutral man? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.213.240.1 (talk) 16:00, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, sorry, your external link is spam, pure and simple. Please do not add it again. Thanks again. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:06, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Republic of Ireland[edit]

I have edited the main article as it at least twice stated that Lawrenson represented Nothern Ireland when in fact it was the Republic of Ireland.

Confusing timeline[edit]

His stint with the Rowdies is listed under his Liverpool career, whereas his 2 games for Barnet is listed under the Management section, even though his Barnet "career" was before he went to the Rowdies. 109.155.249.27 (talk) 20:08, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

World Cup prediction[edit]

This seems quite trivial, unless this caused some sort of controversy or attracted significant media coverage I can't see how this is relevant. The source (BBC), while reliable, is not a secondary source in this context since that's where he made the prediction in the first place. January (talk) 07:18, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
