Lead sentence

I had trouble with everything being jammed into the lead sentence so I rewrote it from the point of view of a first-time reader. (We like to stop and think before our minds are filled with too much.)

Margaret Thomas "Mardy" Murie (1902-2003)—called the "Grandmother of the Conservation Movement" by the Sierra Club and by the Wilderness Society—was a naturalist, an author, an adventurer, and a conservationist.

I would suggest reworking the existing words of the Lead in order to pinpoint each, precise thought as to whether that thought is a primary thought or a minor one. For example, the trailing, two phrases:

who helped in the passage of the Wilderness Act and who was instrumental in creating the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

really may be two, separate but distinct, and independent thoughts as opposed to dangling phrases connected to a lead sentence. I think they are. I think they desire to be in a sentence by themselves:

She helped in the passage of the Wilderness Act and was instrumental in creating the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

How about this? The grammar, as well as the logical construction, is better.

Margaret Thomas "Mardy" Murie (1902-2003) was a naturalist, author, adventurer, and conservationist. Called the "Grandmother of the Conservation Movement" by the Sierra Club and the Wilderness Society, she helped in the passage of the Wilderness Act, and she was instrumental in creating the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. She was the recipient of the Audubon Medal, the John Muir Award, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor awarded by the United States.

Impressed but.....

Hi I just read your article and as a Wikipedian (whose been here for only a year lol). I couldn't help but notice that you lacked references, although I have to say the introduction was very good. So I guess I should give you advice, If you want a B-class article, you have to be more detailed like on the section of Books and Articles. Two in the Far North, a memoir published in 1962, chronicles Murie’s early life in Alaska, marriage to Olaus Murie, and research expeditions in Alaska........ Yeah, you should tell the reader about Two in the Far North, did it win any awards, how was it received by critics, does Margaret Murie herself talk about the book, do any notable people say anything etc.

In two weeks I'll probably come back and read it again. I do expect to see C-class article. Oh and since you're the main contributer, I suggest you look in to the Template:Maintained, you'll thank me. DON'T WORRY JUST GOOGLE AND YOU'LL BE FINE! and you can ask me questions If you have any problems. I'm currently working on Adrianne Leon and Davetta Sherwood (They sort of C-class quality, maybe you could also review them when you have time). I agree with Carly's assessment. I reviewed this article in October 2008 with similar commentary. Since then, I have seen no progress with respect to "... you have to be more detailed ..."

There must be an abundance of rich material laced inside: "Two in the Far North, Island Between, and Arctic Dance.

Lack of encyclopedic tone?

Pigsonthewing (talk · contribs) flagged this article for tone issues back in January 2018. I'm curious as to what material ought to be revised. Perhaps it's the use of first names "Margaret/Mardy," in part unavoidable when the text also refers to husband "Olaus." Dgorsline (talk) 13:50, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
