Alternative spelling?[edit]

Is "Molosco" considered to be a valid alternative spelling for "Malosco"? "Molosco" appeared in an obituary published by the California Newspaper Hall of Fame and I am wondering if this should be considered a typographical error or a valid alternative spelling.
