Request for Impartial Edit[edit]

It appears that there is vandalism on the revision as of 03:40, 9 November 2010 - as I am an administrator at Maine 207 I would like an impartial party to review tis edit and change as necessary. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thieleh9 (talkcontribs)

Huh.[edit]

One thing I did not know about my school is its connections to Gacy. Thanks, Wikipedia! -RadSkat3 17:31, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The section on varsity fencing appears to need some fixing. AFAIK, Marian Central Catholic High School still competes (it is the "5th school," which was removed from the list several months ago), and there are other schools in Illinois that have started fencing teams recently (Highland Park High School and Deerfield High School are two, and there may be others). --Epee1221 03:02, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have made the edit.--Epee1221 01:00, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Breakfast Club[edit]

The page for Maine South High School claims their football field was used for the final scene for The Breakfast Club, as well as this article. I'll erase the comment from this page until anyone can straighten that out. If you find out the real answer, tell me so on my talk page. --BLuToRsE 12:35, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Urban legend claims that it was filmed at main west but the truth is it was indeed filmed at main sout. Main west has a lighted field and main south doesnt. There is no lights on the breakfeast club field. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.3.85.173 (talk) 23:42, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello - it was definately filmed mostly at Maine North! I was there!! The field is a very small part in the film —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.202.244.197 (talk) 05:01, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is no doubt that the film was shot at Maine North, but the football field scene at the end I had always heard was at Maine South. LonelyBeacon (talk) 08:19, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Alumni?[edit]

Can anyone establish the notability of the following alumni who have been added to the page without citation or explanation of what makes them notable?

  • Ralph Puccinelli, MW class of '76.
  • Tony Marino, class of '01.

What not to include[edit]

Hello Warriors! I just went through and made some changes to the article, based on Wikipedia's policy for schools, which can be found at:WikiSchools: What not to include. I hope no one takes this personally. The biggest thing to delete was the activities section, which was nothing more than a list of all the activities at the school. I hope someone will put that section back, but restrict it to activities that are unique to the school (and explain what they are), or activities that have achieved notability and success. As always: cite, cite, cite! Good luck, and happy editing! LonelyBeacon 11:23, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment[edit]

I am assessing this article for WikiProject Schools as Start / Mid. A strong Start class article with plenty of content, more references are however needed for section such as History for B class. General expansion on areas such as academics and campus would be great, as well as some pictures and a school logo. I am giving this article Mid importance for alumni and history. Camaron1 | Chris 14:59, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article has improved enormously since its last assessment, and the new C class rating is clearly justified. There are a few missing elements which are required for a complete article to qualify for the B class rating. The history section is very short, and there is no mention of extracurricular activities other than sporting events. It would also be helpful to have more information about what is actually taught at the school. I presume the AP courses are only for some pupils. What do the rest of the school do instead? Note that some of the links for the references are broken. Dahliarose (talk) 23:16, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gacy[edit]

I'm not sure John Wayne Gacy needs his own headline in an article about Maine West High School simply because some of his victims attended there. Please comment, as I otherwise intend to delete or modify this essentially irrelevant information.Nickrz (talk) 23:34, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is not simply a case that some of his victims attended the school. The Maine West class ring was the key piece of evidence that put the police on his trail .... Gacy denied knowing the kid, and the ring confirmed that he lied. Without the Maine West class ring, he is likely not investigated further, and a lot more people die. I think that gives the school a rather intimate and direct connection to a (sadly) notable killer.
I would argue that, as written, the Gacy section is perhaps a larger percentage of the article than it should be, but I think that is because the article needs further expansion. When the article was assessed, the section was not noted as a weakness in the article. LonelyBeacon (talk) 00:38, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As a friend of the last victim, if the emphasis could be placed on the life lost rather than any glorification of the monster who killed him, that would be ideal. Lisahelmuth (talk) 17:51, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
