Outdated / criticism

Mailing-lists are inefficient, exclusive, non-interactive, kind of static/bidirectional and are having only low online participation.

I was looking for sources for a potential "Criticism" section of the "Usage as discussion forums" section and iirc I once had some source on that but right now the only sources I could find were:

  • Ned, Kock (2010). E-Collaboration Technologies and Organizational Performance: Current and Future Trends: Current and Future Trends. IGI Global. ISBN 9781609604684. Retrieved 26 July 2017.
  • Ruivenkamp, Guido; Hisano, Shūji; Jongerden, Joost (2008). Reconstructing Biotechnologies: Critical Social Analyses. Wageningen Academic Pub. ISBN 9789086860623. Retrieved 26 July 2017.
  • Guest, CIO Central. "As Workplace Communication Evolves, Email May Not Prevail". Forbes. Retrieved 26 July 2017. (email in general)

Do you have more sources on this? Please comment if you find something. Email-lists have a lot of advantages but all of them could be built into new discussion software that is modern, has better features, allows for collaboration, more participatory & inclusive, etc. etc.
