Gold[edit]

I believe you should remove gold from the discography, since it is not an official release (as an evidence - he didn't publish it on his youtube channel). It is only a demo song which came with FL Studio... == Welcome to Wikipedia! ==

This is a good point. However, "Gold" IS a song which was released under Madeon's name. It was picked up for FL Studio after Madeon released it and presented it to them. I'd say it should still be listed, considering it is a Madeon song which is widely available.

Pop Culture[edit]

It's a common misconception that Madeon mashed together the 39 clips on the spot for his clip - it may be worth clarifying that he 'composed' the song beforehand and was simply performing it live for the camera. 129.2.129.154 (talk) 21:14, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The text clearly states "performing his mash-up "Pop Culture", which he uploaded to YouTube in July 2011, and featured thirty-nine sampled songs all run together on-the-fly using a Novation Launchpad". I don't see the problem "sampled" indicates previously selected passages, "run together" indicates mixed or sequenced and "on the fly", well, in front of the cameras. It doesn't say that he just made it up on the spot. CaptainScreebo Parley! 11:54, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article clean-up[edit]

Hello, I have just gone through the article and given it a thorough overhaul to conform to Wikipedia's standards, removing some of the overly promotional and/or unsourced material, adding in proper references (YouTube, iTunes and Wikipedia itself are not considered to be ok), and rewriting it in a more encyclopaedic tone. Cheers! CaptainScreebo Parley! 17:57, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Associated acts[edit]

Okay, the three acts currently listed (Solveig, Deadmau5, Pendulum) are all sourced in the article and Madeon has collaborated with them/remixed their tracks. I don't care if you know that Madeon sat on Madonna's knee and was breastfed by her, it has to be documented in independent reliable sources to be included in the article. Wikipedia is not Facebook, MySpace, a fan forum etc. and information requires verifiability, especially concerning living people's biographies. CaptainScreebo Parley! 15:35, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Concering this - you act as if there's no proof or evidence that any sort of connection between Madeon and Porter exist, when in fact, a simple search will provide the proof necessary. It's not some weak link; it's rather well-known that they are connected and have been for quite some time, and therefore is difficult to cite as it has been documented across a wide range of sources.
I'd appreciate it if you didn't take on the rude tone and treat other editors like children. If new information comes up without a source, why not do a quick check yourself to see if you can help them out or back them up before deleting what they said and saying "Who cares?"

First of all, sorry to sound rude but I cleaned this article up to make it conform to Wikipedia's standards (it was more like a fan essay before with a lot of unverifiable or promotional blurb) and it attracts a lot of excitable, fanstyle contributions. From the WP verifiability page:
  • "The burden of evidence lies with the editor who adds or restores material"
So it's not my job to find sources for information that others add. I can, and do, find refs for information, and after a quick search can find no reliable sources for this association. And, after reading the Infobox Music template section about associated acts, I'm going to remove the category altogether as it specifically states "The following uses of this field should be avoided: One-time collaboration for a single, or on a single song".
Finally you might care to read Wikipedia:TP#Indentation about correctly formatting your replies and also you could learn to sign correctly by typing ~~~~ at the end of your messages. CaptainScreebo Parley! 17:07, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

First, just to clarify, the fan essay promotional blurb items were not my fault. When I created the page I simply translated Madeon's page on French Wikipedia into English and made a few minor corrections.

Second, understandable. That's fine. No reliable sources for this association? I find that rather hard to believe. I'm not even really sure what kind of "reliable sources" you're looking for. I searched it and found countless articles, videos, photos, ticket sales for concerts, even an interview with Porter himself saying that the two of them have been friends since their early teens, all on the first page.

Finally, I know how to format my replies/sign correctly. However this is made a bit difficult when using a mobile device, as I am right now, so forgive me.

Concerning date of birth[edit]

A user recently posted his birthday here on the TP, saying "look the French wiki". First of all English Wikipedia does not have the same rules as French, Estonian or whatever Wikipedia. Secondly, I have been consistently reverting dob additions as Wikipedia:BLPPRIVACY states:

  • With identity theft a serious ongoing concern, people increasingly regard their full names and dates of birth as private. Wikipedia includes full names and dates of birth that have been widely published by reliable sources, or by sources linked to the subject such that it may reasonably be inferred that the subject does not object (my bolding)

Please note that although his dob is floating around on the Internet in one or two places, it does not fit the criteria "widely published by reliable sources", nor does it fit "sources linked to the subject such that it may reasonably be inferred that the subject does not object" as I have just checked Madeon's Soundcloud, MySpace and YouTube pages and nowhere does he publish his dob. So let's keep it private, shall we? CaptainScreebo Parley! 12:42, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

His birth YEAR is on his official facebook. Can we at least remove the "/1995" part? ErdoS (talk) 19:35, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Jeez I just logged into FB for that (6 months offline)! No we can't, that's what the template does, it gives an approximation based on known age now/probable year of birth, his dob is not explicitly mentioned on facebook so please leave it alone. CaptainScreebo Parley! 20:02, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Why use a probable Year of birth when we know a definite year of birth? Makes no sense. Don't we value accuracy here? Surely there is a more appropriate template for this. Right? ErdoS (talk) 16:55, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Read the above text please. His dob is not widely published, this violates BLPPRIVACY, otherwise provide sources etc. CaptainScreebo Parley! 18:32, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Working with Lady Gaga[edit]

He's currently assisting Lady Gaga in the production of her new album. Should that be mentioned somewhere? http://www.digitalspy.com/music/news/a467150/lady-gaga-is-impressive-in-the-studio-says-madeon.html ErdoSa (talk) 05:34, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's been removed a few times because people were adding it without references, or based on tweets and so on. Do you have any more references? Or I'll look and see what I can find. If it's based on reliably reported information, of course we can add it. CaptainScreebo Parley! 16:29, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Is that not a good enough reference? Early life[edit]

Hi,

I would like to add some information to his biography. I'm not sure how to put it on the page. All my sources are video recorded interviews for french TV shows or french radio shows (all available on youtube, I'll give the links of course).

1) He left school at 13. 2) His 1rst job was to sell magic tricks online (probably the reason why he once had his twitter status saying "retired magician"). That's how he bought his 1rst instruments. 3) I'd like to draw the attention on the fact that he defines himself as a composer or producer. He says DJ is more like a hobby.

Do I create an "early life" section for 1) and 2) ? Warm bot (talk) 18:37, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
