Controversy section (POV-check-section)[edit]

I've moved a paragraph from the introduction that questioned the neutrality of the firm into its own 'controversy' section in the body of the article. The description of the article is not the place for questions about neutrality, as is common to the format of many other articles. As an example, on the Conference Board of Canada page you can see similar allegations about neutrality are in their own section named 'controversy'. The article introduction is to be just that, an introduction. Issues should be brought up within the body of the article, unless the entire article is based on the issue itself. None of the 'allegations' have been altered, only their position in the article.

I've also placed a 'POV-check-section' tag on that section to assure that the neutrality of the questionable content is discussed. Be advised that I have no affiliation to the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, and my user account actually predates the creation of the institute. --Savant99 (talk) 00:04, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the 'POV-check-section' tag on that section because all description was properly cited. Anyone is free to add their own description if they feel it is not neutral, but should not be allowed to insinuate non-neutrality without providing their own argument and citations.--Emperor Zhark (talk) 15:56, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Organisation list[edit]

On the basis of the rule against advertising, I have adjusted the links in the Organization section to be within-wikipedia rather than linking to individual profiles at the MLI. Also removed the staff list on the grounds of notability.204.92.65.10 (talk) 17:08, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This page needs to be edited for accuracy[edit]

As an employee of the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, I am respecting the guideline laid-out by Wikipedia in not editing inaccuracies in this page directly. However, there are several glaring inaccuracies and inconsistencies present in the summary which I hope can be addressed:

The first citation to this article: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/jul/18/conservative-us-network-undermined-indigenous-energy-rights-in-canada is both (1) irrelevant to the institutions broader work and affiliations, and (2) has been thoroughly disproven as misinformation as set out in this detailed article by the institute: https://macdonaldlaurier.ca/disproving-disinformation-perpetuated-in-the-guardian-and-the-narwhal/. At the very least, in line with Wikipedia's policies and practices, any reference to this article should be noted as controversial and not included in the general summary of the Institute.
The Institute is framed as 'libertarian' and 'conservative', which is inadequate and not proven by the citations. First, The Institute's Who We Are' page (the second citation) clearly lays out the non-partisan and independent position of the institute and does not include either 'libertarian' or 'conservative' in its self-description. One of the Institute's namesakes, on whom the work of the institute is modelled, 'Laurier' was a Liberal. The institute publishes work from all types of policy thinkers and there is no evidence to suggest it should be summarized as either 'libertarian' or 'conservative'. Consistent with practices across other think tank pages of a similar nature, please add the phrase: "The Macdonald-Laurier describes itself as independent and non-partisan." The first sentence should read: "The Macdonald–Laurier Institute (MLI) is a think tank located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada."
The page reads as if the Atlas Network were the primary affiliation for the Institute. This is inaccurate. The institute is independent and receives funding from a huge variety of funders as is apparent through publicly available filings with the Canadian Revenue Agency. To highlight one funder/donor over any other in the summary is biased editorializing that can only be intended to misrepresent the Institute. Please remove: "affiliated with the American libertarian Atlas Network" from the summary section.
