Fair use rationale for Image:L-halpin-wiki2.jpg[edit]

Image:L-halpin-wiki2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I was wondering: I have seen articles about TV series that are accompanied by low-resolution screen-shot images from the series. Would such an image be acceptable? An image page for one such image named the series copyright owner under "Source", and contained this, under "rationale", "Purpose of use":

"Solely for fair use to illustrate and provide critical commentary in the Wikipedia article discussing this TV series. No other use is permitted.

  1. This image is a reduced size, low-resolution image of the screenshot. As such, it is non-reproduceable for commercial purposes.
  2. This image does not limit the copyright holder's ability to profit from the original source, nor will it dilute the importance or recognition of the TV series in connection with its organization.
  3. This image enhances the article in which it's displayed, as it provides an immediate relevance to the reader more capably than the textual description alone.
  4. Use of the screenshot visually identifies this TV program in a manner that mere prose cannot, and meets all criteria in WP:NFCC."

And a box of text under "Licensing" states:

"This image is a screenshot of a copyrighted television program or station ID. As such, the copyright for it is most likely owned by the company or corporation that produced it. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots

  • for identification and critical commentary on the station ID or program and its contents
  • on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation,

qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. For more information, see Wikipedia:Non-free content.

To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline, as well as the source of the work and copyright information."

Would these statements satisfy the requirements?

Who is that character? David Herold (in 1980)?[edit]

I find the following:

A notable later appearance was in the role of "Herrold" in the 1980 television movie The Ordeal of Dr. Mudd

That program refers to John Wilkes Booth (assassin of President Lincoln), and one of the associates of Booth is a David Herold (only 1 "r"). "Herrold" (2 r's) is what showed up also on IMDB's description of this program, and would, like this Wikipedia article, be affected if Halpin's character was indeed David Herold. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.63.16.20 (talk) 15:15, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
