This article seems to be written from a fan's point of view. A more impartial treatment of the subject would be better.

Citation requests[edit]

I'm an admirer of Ms Larsen's work - however I do question the claim that Rush Home Road was an "internationally acclaimed bestseller". I'm not aware that the book was on bestseller lists outside Canada. Perhaps what is meant to be said is that the book was a bestseller in Canada and was acclaimed internationally.

I'm not aware of one critic - never mind "many" - who described The Girls as "the best book of the year". Not that it isn't a very good novel... I'm hoping someone will be able to bring light to these two statements. Victoriagirl 02:42, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Rush Home Road, a phenomenal first book was not only a NOMINEE 2003 for the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize AND a NOMINEE 2003 for the Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best First Book, a U.S. publisher quickly paid a large advance for the remaining rights (Knopf Canada was the first publisher to buy the manuscript) to this first novel by a Canadian author, and within two months of acquiring the manuscript had sold it in eleven countries and had been translated into eight different languages. Shortly after the book’s publication, film rights were bought by Whoopi Goldberg, who plans to play the lead role.

I'm reading Rush Home Road right now and their are numerous *direct* references to the Underground Railroad, *not* INdirect references.
