Date confusion?[edit]

Why is this under the category of 2008 Films when at the top of the article it states it's a 2009 film? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.162.217.173 (talk) 16:26, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Though wide release of the film was not until 2009, IMDB shows that it premiered in October 2008 at 2 film festivals: Raindance Film Festival (UK) and Valladolid Film Festival (Spain). Shouldn't this be a 2008 film? Hrdinský (talk) 07:06, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fascist/Franquist[edit]

I changed the designation "fascist Spain" to "Franquist Spain" because Spain under Franco wasn't categorically fascist; the case is ambiguous at best. See Stanley Payne, A History of Fascism 1914-1945, pp 252-267. (On the spelling- at first I used "Francoist" but noticed that in his book he uses the word "Franquist," which is based on the Spanish spelling. If the film is set in 1922, Spain was almost under Primo de Rivera's Dictatorship (1923 - 1930). If the movie shows the evolution of the characters along the 20's, I think that "...set against the backdrop of Primo de Rivera's Dictatorship in the 20's" would be more accurate. I actually just altered what was there before, but I think you are right that it should be changed. Since García Lorca died in 1936, the movie must be set during the Primo de Rivera dictatorship and/or the 2nd Republic. Maybe I'll just put "Spain of the 20s and 30s." 'Changed sexual orientation'[edit]

I deleted reference to Dali's sexual orientation having 'changed' when he meets Lorca again. There is no concrete identification of what Dali's orientation before or after the relationship with Lorca in Madrid. Indeed his strong reaction to news of Lorca's death suggests an ongoing emotional attachment. The fact Dali has a wife isn't proof that he had gone from gay/bisexual to heterosexual. Discussion: Was 'Changed sexual orientation' a wise change?[edit]

This change is inconsistent with the Wikipedia article on Garcia Lorca and the Wikipedia article on Salvatore Dali. Dali said we wasn't a homosexual according to Wikipedia references which follow: 

The Wikipedia article on Garcia Lorca states, "The friendship with Lorca had a strong element of mutual passion,[7] but Dalí rejected the erotic advances of the poet'".'[8]

Footnote 8 reads: "Bosquet, Alain, Conversations with Dalí, 1969. p. 19–20. (PDF format) (of Garcia Lorca) 'S.D.:He was homosexual, as everyone knows, and madly in love with me. He tried to screw me twice .... I was extremely annoyed, because I wasn’t homosexual, and I wasn’t interested in giving in. Besides, it hurts. So nothing came of it. But I felt awfully flattered vis-à-vis the prestige. Deep down I felt that he was a great poet and that I owe him a tiny bit of the Divine Dalí's asshole.'"

The Wikipedia article on Salvatore Dali also states, The friendship with Lorca had a strong element of mutual passion,[15] but Dalí rejected the erotic advances of the poet.[16] (Footnote 16 in the Dali article is identical to footnote 8 in the Lorca article.)
