Standard Nominclature list[edit]

this may have been better under "standard nominclature list". since manuals are usually called out SNL G-XX ect.Brian in denver (talk) 22:26, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • also if any one has a complete index of the "Alphebeticl list" please post it.Brian in denver (talk) 18:15, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

M25 "Dragon Wagon"[edit]

Just for visibility: I'm currently tidying up wiki-content related to this US Army vehicle (never knew about the G160 designation!), and I'm drafting a "start" article about the M25/M26. Regards, DPdH (talk) 03:26, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rename?[edit]

The article title G-numbers is a bit obscure. Probably be good to rename this article "List of "G" series military vehicles" as we already have List of "M" series military vehicles. - LuckyLouie (talk) 22:04, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Refererences[edit]

Its been pointed out to me that Portrail press sells "Army Vehicle Identification Numbers" by D. Spence. softbound 4th edition. Brian in denver (talk) 16:26, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect[edit]

I've redirected this article from G-numbers to List of "G" series military vehicles. A search of the term "G-numbers" turns up zero outside references. This article now conforms better to others of its ilk, such as, List of U.S. Signal Corps Vehicles, List of Dodge automobiles, List of "M" series military vehicles, List of International Harvester vehicles, etc. - LuckyLouie (talk) 00:03, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Too many redlinks?[edit]

While it's good to expand articles and add content, I do not think it's helpful to create so many redlinks, such as M1A1 light tank without searching to see if relevant articles already exist (in this case, M1A1_Abrams_tank). - LuckyLouie (talk) 13:34, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

yep the M system can be real confusing to the novice, (I'v de linked a bunch of the more mundane stuff), in the SNL system its very important to note the words- heavy, meduim, light, ect. I commented on the M-list, that it wasent very well concieved, in that it should have been divided into separate lists. IE- trucks, trailers, tanks, ect. (in your example of the abrams it should be noted that the goofy army came up with a 4th designator- "Main battle tank" I guess calling it a "M-150 medium tank" wouldent have been sexy enough to sell to congress.)

Rederects[edit]

I suppose all the 1,500 sherman variants, should be redirected to the one sherman article, but i really wish thay had devided the article into m3 and m4, since there really two different vehicles, even though there listed in the same SNL.Brian in denver (talk) 19:00, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

ok, looks like we got a title figured out. and acording to the spence book, this system was in use from 1925 to 1958, after 1958 however tank and automotive command kept using them internally untill 1970.Brian in denver (talk) 19:30, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cushman[edit]

Why does the Cushman Model 39 three-wheeler have two G-numbers, G551 (with package carrier) & G672 ?

  • motor scooter, airborne 2-wheel, model 53 (G683)
  • motor scooter, package delivery 3-wheel, model 39 (G551 or G672)
  • motor scooter, with side car, 3-wheel, model 34 (G679)

probably an up grade, some vehicles of the same genere got new G-numbers, as time went on. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.118.84.203 (talk) 22:39, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ton ratings[edit]

The Army uses "#-ton" with a dash and small "t". Should that be standard here? Sammy D III (talk) 22:37, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
