St. George[edit]

St. George is not recognized as a population centre as defined by Statistics Canada. You can see St. George at List of towns in New Brunswick. Hwy43 (talk) 22:21, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hwy43 is correct. "Population centre" is a specific thing with a specific definition, which is not synonymous with every populated place that exists at all. A place can have the necessary size of population but fail to have the necessary population density — according to St. George's community profile, its population density is 95.6/km2, which is a far cry from the 400/km2 that's the minimum standard for classification as an urban area. So if a place isn't on Statistics Canada's list of population centres, then it doesn't go on ours either. Bearcat (talk) 22:32, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect information for Miramichi, NB, Canada[edit]

The only close mention of Miramichi NB is in a sub-division of that city (Chatham-Douglastown). Miramichi City became known as a result of the amalgation of Chatham, Douglastown, Newcastle and other divisions many years ago. Census subdivisions (i.e., municipalities) and population centres (as defined and delineated by StatCan) are two different types of statistical geographies. You have provided a link to the census profile of the former - the City of Miramichi. Go to the actual source of the data in the article and then filter by entering "N.B." to see for yourself that Miramichi is not listed. If you don't like it, contact StatCan. Our job here is to republish what StatCan presents as population centres in New Brunswick, not add a single municipality to a list of 32 population centres. For the City of Miramichi, you instead want List of cities in New Brunswick and List of municipalities in New Brunswick. should be changed to metro and redo list[edit]

The section doesn't make sense. It doesn't reflect population divisions in New Brunswick. I would think Metro would be a better reference. There are a number of places not even listed, ST George, Miramichi and so on. It serves no purpose really. Harry12555 (talk) 21:14, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It sure does serve a purpose. It republishes the latest federal census counts of population centres in New Brunswick as delineated by Statistics Canada. Read up on population centres and then read the intro carefully.

Meanwhile, census metro areas and census agglomerations can be found at List of census metropolitan areas and agglomerations in Canada. Agglomerations specifically in New Brunswick can be found at List of Canadian census agglomerations by province or territory.

With respect to St. George, did you even bother to read the very first thread on this talk page? Miramichi is discussed in the thread immediately above this. Hwy43 (talk) 07:45, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
