Untitled[edit]

Why are animal-related goods listed here? Crop article says A crop is any cultivated plant, fungus, or alga and animals that are raised by humans are called livestock. I doubt that cow's milk (or meat) is a plant, fungus or alga. 82.141.126.28 (talk) 01:22, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Title miscue[edit]

I came to this list thinking it would be a list of which crops are worth the most per measure (e.g. per bushel), not which crops have the greatest worldwide value as a whole. If the list I was expecting exists, it would be nice to have a hatnote with a link to it. --Cromwellt|talk|contribs 01:18, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sweet potato missing[edit]

I have noticed that sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) has been omitted. I assume that this could be due to the common confusion between sweet potatoes, and the unrelated crops: potatoes (Solanum tuberosum) and yam (Dioscorea spp.). "Yam" is a common name used by some people in N. America to refer to sweet potato, which enhances this confusion. I am not editing it myself, because it is not clear to me which of the "2012 Gross Production Value" options you are using from the FAOSTAT output cited as the data source, but the lowest value is US$ 13.2 billon, which should easily put sweet potato on this list. Cashews?[edit]

I was surprised not to see cashews on the list. Their global market value is ca. $10 million (USD) per annum, which would place them above the bottom 10 or so crops cited here.

Source: "Cashew Market - Growth, Trends, and Forecast (2019 - 2024)," ResearchAndMarkets.com -- "The cashew market was valued at USD 9.9 million in 2018, and is projected to reach a value of USD 12.7 million dollars by 2024, witnessing a CAGR of 4.6%."
