Article lede

In reverting my edit Brendanm2129 said: "Added back randomly deleted information. This information is still relevant to TikTok and what happened to their page". Apart from the rude and incorrect "randomly deleted" part (I left a pertinent edit summary explaining my edit, it was not "random") I largely accepted what Brendanm2129 had said. I did not delete Lisa and Lena as I had previously, I merely copy edited for encyclopaedic tone, due weight, accuracy, and to be more concise. The result was:

"The previous most followed individual account was that of Lisa and Lena with over 32.7 million followers. They deleted their account in March 2019, citing privacy concerns and their loss of interest in the platform."

Is there anything wrong with that? Here's what preceded and subsequently replaced it:

"Before that, Lisa and Lena were the most followed individuals with over 32.7 million followers, but at the end of March 2019, they announced that they had deleted their TikTok account because of their privacy concerns and losing interest in the lip-syncing platform."

I have italicised issues: Before what, exactly? Is it important to say in which part of March they deleted their account? Or even in which part of March they announced that they had deleted their account? And not just their account, but specifically their TikTok account? This being a list of TikTok accounts, the reader is not going to be wondering if it means their eBay account. And "because of their" is a clumsy construction to sit with "losing interest in". And TikTok is used for comedy, music, magic tricks, and much else; it is not just a lip-syncing platform.

I also removed the picture. It's undue to have it as the headline and only picture of an article about TikTok accounts when they don't even have an account. However, as it is the only picture I'm ok with it staying as a temporary measure until a more appropriate picture can replace it.

I can't help wondering if editor CptViraj actually read my edit and summary, or just assumed I had repeated my earlier deletion and reverted on that basis? Captainllama (talk) 15:54, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Question with my (now-reverted) edit

I made an edit to this page that removed an inactive account that belonged to musical.ly. Since that account is no longer active, I do not know why it should be on this list. That account is just a remnant from the musical.ly days, and no one posts to that account anymore.

Because 24 is not such a nice number, I believe that the list be shrunk down to 20. Also, "profession" appears to be the wrong term to describe the accounts. "Description" is probably better. Aasim 04:02, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

About the list's length, given the fact that the similar lists for the other social media platform (Insta, Twitter, etc) are listing up the first 50 accounts with most followers, I don't see why we should shrink this one to 20. Should we remove Lisa & Lena from the description? They deleted their page almost a year ago and I think the most followed person should have their image there. I disagree for the moment. Wikipedia is here to tell history, not only to provide a live ranking. For example, when you look at the article of the tallest buildings in NYC, Trinity Church (Manhattan) is not in the current ranking (obviously) even if it has been the tallest building of NYC at some point. But the church is mentioned in the bottom of the article for having been the tallest building of NYC from 1846 to 1853. I think it's interesting data in both cases. The user named Adog made a questionnable change here, mentioning the page MOS:USA. I look at lots of articles that list countries or nationalities (example: 2016 Summer Olympics medal table), this is USA and not U.S. Because as mentioned in MOS:USA, there's an exception for technical and formal uses like ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 codes and FIFA country codes. I believe that showing a picture of the 1st and 17th most-followed accounts is not representative of just the most-followed person, even though they are sisters. I believe we should consider getting a picture of just Charli D’Amelio, since she is the most-followed TikToker. The image spotlight is meant for the most-followed, not 1st and 17th. Hi CranberryGingerAle. We had the picture of Lisa and Lena (who were not the most followed account) for months and I believe it was better than nothing. And since it's a list of the 50 most-followed account on TikTok, I don't think it hurts to illustrate the article with more than the first on the list. The problem of the current picture is that even if it's (in my opinion) a way better picture for the article, it seems to be a copyrighted picture. About the "not-representative" previous picture, I discovered several weeks ago on Vimeo this Creative-Commons UNICEF video about Charli and Dixie D'Amelio, and believed uploading it to Commons was a great opportunity for us to illustrate this article with not-perfect-but-better-than-nothing picture. The reason I picked the picture of both sisters and not a cropped version of Charli is that video frames are not high quality by default, and cropping a bad quality image (to get Charli D'Amelio only) makes it even worse. Of course it's not perfect and representative, but unfortunately because of all those constraints we have on picture licenses I believe it's the best solution we have for now. --Deansfa (talk) 15:11, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

David Dobrik should be categoried as United States instead of Slovakia due to the following reasons:

1. Grown up in the US. 2. Los Angeles based. 3. He is mostly known by US (primarly) and all the English speaking western countries. 4. He is not known by Slovakians

Ask yourself, do you regard UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson as American because he born in the US? Or Elon Musk as South African because he was born in South Africa? After taking all things into consideration, I believe it was a good idea to remove the Douyin section from this article. After all, it is a completely different app and no one updating the “List of most-followed TikTok accounts” had any access to Douyin data. No one with access to the Douyin data was updating the article and if the article were that important to users at Douyin they would have been keeping it up-to-date. If any Douyin users want to restart the list, they may be better off creating a separate page. While TikTok and Douyin are both owned by ByteDance, they operate on completely different networks and the platforms do not cross paths. The TikTok article treats TikTok and Douyin as one and the same app. There is no separate Douyin article, but it falls under the TikTok article. The article points to TikTok and Douyin being two versions of the same app. By that same logic, there is no reason for a separate Douyin list, but the Douyin list should be included under this list.
