Fair Use Rationale[edit]

Each of these images need fair use rationale. Some research needs top be done before the template can be completed. Please help. A template can be found in the cat:talk page.

Is it not possible to speak to the archive department at whoever owns the intellectual rights now (ICI?), and get them to release copyright? I've done this once or twice, it isn't as difficult as you may think. Parrot of Doom (talk) 13:12, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

I'd be tempted to put the old LCC images on the left hand side, all in one column, for cosmetic and consistency purposes, and have the additional images of the buildings at a later date moved to the right. Also, there are a few shots of Regent Mill, today, here. --Jza84 |  Talk  12:10, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An alternate image of Pilot Mill, Bury, is here. Parrot of Doom (talk) 21:52, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The current discussion about deletion of some of these images remains here. It is one of the few discussions still outstanding, and I think will probably close soon. A resolution to cr problems needs to be found quickly. HTH Kbthompson (talk) 10:17, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of suggestions[edit]

There need to be some explanations of terms such as ropes, rings and mule spindles. Also "Hawk was bought by LCC for 42,00, 21 April 1931 (Oldham Chronicle)" Should that be £42,000 and shouldn't there be a full reference for the Oldham Chronicle article? Richerman (talk) 15:25, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Listed buildings[edit]

I would expect most of the mills that are still standing to be listed buildings of one sort or another. At some point, I'll root around and see if I can find any sources to back this up. If they're listed it means they're pretty much notable to have their own articles where we could use the images.

From the entry in Imperial Mill: "Notes:Wallace Street/Gorse Street Greenbank c.1900 was Grade II listed in 1974". Since the building was demolished in 1958, what was listed? Was it only partially demolished? Nev1 (talk) 16:09, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look at English Heritage's "Images of England" site - it will contain details - and often photographs, of listed buildings that are still extent. It should be noted that the images are definitely copyright. You can use {{IoE}} to link to the listing page. HTH Kbthompson (talk) 10:14, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
[More] local councils are responsible for maintaining the lists of listed buildings in their area; sometimes these are available online and include a full description of the building and its history. Details of demolished buildings would probably be available on application to the local archives service of the local library. Kbthompson (talk) 10:20, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
From experience of working on Grade I listed buildings in Greater Manchester, the council lists are up to date (where available online), whereas IoE is only accurate as of 2001. Nev1 (talk) 10:31, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough - my experience of struggling with much the same problem in London is that many councils don't published their list - and where they do, it is often difficult to search. So where available, fine, where not - try the other! cheers Kbthompson (talk) 10:58, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
