Largest loss at sea of U.S. Soldiers? Sultana(post civil war)? or HMT Rohna?(WWII)?[edit]

Largest loss at sea of U.S. Soldiers? Sultana(post civil war)? or HMT Rohna?(WWII)?

There appears to be conflicting data on largest loss of life at sea of U.S. soldiers, although strictly speaking, the Sultana was on a river and not "at sea"

SS Khedive Ismail[edit]

Ministry of War Transport troopship SS Khedive Ismail which was torpedoed and sunk by Japanes submarine I 27 on 12 February 1944, carrying 1,511 service men and women and ship's crew. 1,296 people lost their lives, making it Britain's third worst mercantile disaster of World War Two. It is also Britain's single worst loss of female personnel in the history of the British Commonwealth. And yet there is no mention of this tragic incident on this webpage. The question is 'why?' The book 'Passage to Destiny' by Brian James Crabb tells the complete story and lists the names of all the casualties and survivors. 80.47.20.168 (talk) 10:08, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
