40,000 yardage minimum watchlist for 2021[edit]

Two QB's could attain the minimum next season:

40,000 yardage minimum watchlist for 2020[edit]

No quarterbacks are close enough to consider for the all-time listing next season.

...as did Tom Brady[edit]

There appears to be a dispute (myself and another user) as to whether or not it is appropriate to include Tom Brady also surpassing the touchdown passes record previously held by Peyton Manning.

The OP is set up to note who had held the record, then indicate who then became the all-time leader. See below for how the OP is presently set up:

PASSING YARDS

  • Warren Moon was the leader
  • Damon Allen then surpassed Warren Moon to become the leader
  • Anthony Calvillo then surpassed Damon Allen to become the leader

PASSING COMPLETIONS

  • Warren Moon was the leader
  • Brett Favre then surpassed Warren Moon to become the leader
  • Drew Brees then surpassed Brett Favre to become the leader

PASSING ATTEMPTS

  • Warren Moon was the leader
  • Brett Favre then surpassed Warren Moon to become the leader

PASSING TOUCHDOWNS

  • Warren Moon was the leader
  • Anthony Calvillo then surpassed Warren Moon to become the leader
  • Brett Favre then surpassed Anthony Calvillo to become the leader
  • Peyton Manning then surpassed Brett Favre to become the leader
  • Drew Brees then surpassed Peyton Manning to become the leader

Note that at no point did Tom Brady surpass the leader in the passing touchdowns category. If he were to surpass Drew Brees, then it ought to be noted because Drew Brees is the leader. At no point has Tom Brady been the leader in touchdown passes. If he is included in the lead for his passing Manning, then we ought to include everyone who surpassed Warren Moon's previously held records in touchdowns, yards, completions, and attempts. If we did that, the OP would get messy. In my opinion, we should stick to a criteria of noting when someone surpasses the leader in a given category, not someone who at one point held the lead over a specific individual in a given category. Amending the Addendum: Including Indoor Football Quarterbacks[edit]

I would like to propose an amendment for the list, and I'd like it to be hashed out here before it turns into an editing war. The reason for the exclusion for indoor American football leagues are for the following two reasons: "[it is] played on a much shorter field and heavily favors offensive scoring" and it being a lesser (minor) league to the NFL and CFL.

The argument for the latter is if the USFL, XFL, UFL, NFLE, LFA, etc are included as per combined statistics the Arena Football League was playing at the same level, if not higher, than some of these smaller leagues while being very much professional as many players made long careers out of it. Unfortunately, the state of indoor football took a step back with the folding of the AFL and the division with leagues like the IFL and NAL preventing the sport from growing to AFL standards. If one indoor league is to be included, it has to be the AFL if there is a decision to make a single exception to the indoor football rule.

To the point that it is played on a shorter field and favors offensive scoring, the CFL plays on a field with different dimensions, more players, and also favors offensive play. The CFL is as different to American football as indoor football is. It is also important to observe that even though the game is played on a smaller field, there are a handful of players that were able to accumulate 40,000 yards since it would be more difficult for them to do so with a smaller field. Excluding these few seem like a disservice to them since they literally have less field to work with. The only negative to adding them, which the reason for the addendum are these quarterbacks have a large amount of passing touchdowns. All of them will have hundreds of more passing touchdowns than the top players on the list right now. Other than all of them sitting at the top of the passing touchdown category, the argument that the game favors offensive scoring does not factor into these players having much higher yardage, completions, or even attempts.

I am proposing that indoor football quarterbacks should be included on this list, but at the very least, the Arena Football League statistics be the only indoor football league included. Nhb55840 (talk) 21:04, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
