Is Lukunga mputu actually a city?[edit]

I've been working on creating articles for red links on this page, but I can't seem to find any information on Lukunga mputu. It's not part of the source cited for the population and coordinates Zera555 (talk) 20:41, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Zera555: It's probably referring to "Lukunga-Mputu Sector" in Kasangulu Territory. See Chiefdoms and sectors of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Possibly it has been reörganized from a sector into an independent city, but I don't have any evidence of that. The data from World Gazeteer doesn't seem to be high quality, imo. I recently came across Kituku, which I can't find any information on myself. 〈 Forbes₇₂ | Talk 〉

Separate city article[edit]

In DR Congo cities are administrative divisions. This article is a list that included cities, communes, villages, and even historical places. I had been working on a "Cities of the Democratic Republic of the Congo" article which is nearing completion. My thought was to rename this article "List of cities and towns of the...". Number of cities[edit]

There are not 98 cities in the DR Congo. Excluding Kinshasa there are 32 cities represented in the National Assembly as required by electoral law and there are 66 other cities that have been given city status. Of these I know of 7 that have been assigned mayors, the rest cannot be said to be operational in any way. Zoocat56 (talk) 17:39, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
