How complete is this list?[edit]

The lack of any sources to show how this list was compiled means that the user has absolutely no idea how complete this page actually is. Whilst it does have a lead paragraph, it does not give a count of how many taxa are known to have been recorded in the Gujurat region. Is this page showing 10% of all taxa, or 100%? We have no idea. Is it just a randomly compiled aggregation, and how accurate is it? Are all these taxa native to Gujurat? Are any endemic endemic? How many are non-native introductions? What conservation status do these species have within Gujurat, or in India as a whole?

A full, reliably sourced and sortable list of species would be a welcome improvement to this page (just as it would to so many other 'List of species' pages on Wikipedia!) Nick Moyes (talk) 08:33, 15 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Nick Moyes:, I added one reference which says 193 species are found in Gujarat. The article lists 91 of them. As said in the article, six butterfly families are found in Gujarat but does not list any species from the last two families. I do not have that reference book or I am not intended to work on this article right now. But your comment prompted me to do add one reference so one can find out how incomplete it is. Thank you Nizil Shah I think that is extremely helpful and gives the user a good idea of how complete (or otherwise) this list is. I see this is a failure across so many 'List of' pages - not just of biological groups. Without a lead paragraph putting any list into context, the poor user is left to guess for themselves, and misinformation or misunderstanding can only be the result.
