Vague scope[edit]

This list is not very useful and it is very difficult to determine whether species included are valid - South India is not well defined either biogeographically or politically. Shyamal (talk) 14:45, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also please note that Baker and Inglis is very outdated and sometimes grossly in error. Shyamal (talk) 14:51, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your comments. I agree with you on the geographical vagueness of South India. But, let us not forget, India is a huge country and articles such as these would be of immense interest and value to people interested in birds. Hopefully, we will fix the errors over time with the help of experts like you. --CarTick 15:22, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This list is not something that should be used as a starting point for improvement. My suggestion would be for you to erase the list and restart with the contents from something like "The Birds Of Southern India" by Richard Grimmett & Tim Inskipp, ISBN 0713651644 . Shyamal (talk) 02:05, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have the book in the reference, it has a much shorter list. --CarTick 02:27, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, the shorter list happens to be more accurate. The current list follows an outdated taxonomic and systematic treatment, inappropriate sequence and the longer length is due to its inclusion of a number of questionable subspecies. Shyamal (talk) 04:04, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
ok, i will make the changes. it will be a couple of weeks before i get to it though. --CarTick 12:38, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Red Junglefowl and Oriental Pied Hornbill[edit]

Both the birds are included in the book of Grimmett and Inskipp I am assuming you are questioning that. Please go ahead and remove them if you are sure. --CarTick 13:31, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have just rechecked in Rasmussen & Anderton - yes, they can be included - if we use a line at 21 deg N Latitude, there are some zones that seem likely. Shyamal (talk) 14:59, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
