Different Article format[edit]

This year, a more complete article format was created here: 2019 NCAA Division I men's soccer rankings. Should this article just be re-directed to that article? The new article matches other NCAA season ranking formats, as well as the women's soccer rankings page formats. Swimmer33 (talk) 18:55, 29 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

When I started this thing back in 2015, I decided that 1) I would use ONLY the poll conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) (now the United Soccer Coaches) because it was and is "the most widely recognized national collegiate soccer ranking system in the U.S" and 2) I was going to keep it simple, so that people couild look at it and see the entire season's progressive, weekly rankings at a glance. It was an intentional case of K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid), and it turned out to also be rather easily updated every week.
The thing that Quidster started last spring is anything but simple, which is why I told him that I didn't want to even think about doing it, let alone actually doing it. In addition, a whole season in that format is too wide to see all of even one of the four polls used, unless you reduce your font size to "microscopic".. Then too, the article is providing more information than the polls give, meaning that there has been some "original research" done, probably meeting Wikipedia's criteria for "speedy deletion." That means that the page could be deleted at any time, if the wrong administrator sees it and (over)reacts. (Yes there are some admins like that, and they aometimes run in oacks, supporting each other.)
To answer your question, above--- I added a "See also" sectuion to the "List of..." article. GWFrog (talk) 22:21, 29 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That works for me. I did think that it seemed a bit arbitrary what polls were included in the list on the wider page. It is easy for basketball and football, but I also update the baseball one during baseball season, and it has similar issues. However, I'm not so sure the scrolling to see the whole poll is really an issue. The football and basketball AP polls don't fit on a screen. Hopefully I've fixed the issue with it providing more info than the polls give, I've just been transposing the polls onto that page.Swimmer33 (talk) 16:27, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
