Copypaste[edit]

Why do editors feel the need to copypaste summaries from cultbox, (series 3 episodes 2,3, 4), or the Radio Times which are previews and not attempt to make them encyclopedic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.125.27.14 (talk) 21:03, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Episode Titles?[edit]

Can anyone provide sources for the episode titles that have suddenly appeared for all three series? The BBC just refers to them as (eg) 'Series 1, Episode 1'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.67.40.110 (talk) 13:15, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

They're not from the DVDs - even they (all three seasons) don't use titles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.160.61.6 (talk) 14:56, 20 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Again episode titles have appeared for series 4. They are not on a BBC source so where have they come from. An IP has added them so they could just be made up like the rest.REVUpminster (talk) 09:13, 7 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If there's no source bin them - X201 (talk) 10:46, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio[edit]

Re: Copyvio. I've chopped the copy vio stuff. Each episode now has the briefest of outlines. The new version is on the Temp page. - X201 (talk) 16:10, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the episodes were not copvio because I rewrote them. See the history for my edits.REVUpminster (talk) 16:51, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still trying to track this through history. Unfortunately, television episode copy-pastes can be very hard to clean because they are often drawn from multiple different sources. I'm finding hits on diverse episodes all over the web. :( If an episode summary has been removed that you (or any other editor) wrote from scratch (without copying from another site or basing it on that language), please feel free to restore it. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:28, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrote section that the Duplication Detector found problems with.[edit]

One section had several phrases that might have qualified as close paraphrasing. Section was substantially rewritten. --Gregogil (talk) 04:55, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Name the murderer?[edit]

This is from the talk page of the article

Should we really be naming the murderer - it would be a huge spoiler for someone looking at the page to see if the show looked good, having heard about it but not watched it before. Maybe we are supplying too much information? Bruno Russell (talk) 08:18, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:How_to_write_a_plot_summary#Spoilers: "Information should not be intentionally omitted from summaries in an effort to avoid "spoilers" within the encyclopedia article." --gråb whåt you cån (talk) 12:19, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't think we should show the murderer. I write a lot of these summaries and you can be subtle about it without giving the murderer away. I wrote some of the summaries here because they were often copyvio but i did not list the murderer and think they should be removed. However, if the episode list leads to an episode article then the plot summary there should give away the murderer as spoilers would be expected.REVUpminster (talk) 15:33, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What's your justification for contravening WP guidelines, as outlined above? --gråb whåt you cån (talk) 18:00, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I follow this part of the section you mention "However, when summarizing a plot and choosing what details to include, editors should use discretion. The advantages of exhaustive coverage of the work are in dynamic tension with the desire to preserve the artistic qualities of the work for readers.[6] Wikipedia should contain potentially "spoiling" detail where it substantially enhances the reader's understanding of the work and its impact but be omitted when it merely ruins the experience of the work of fiction for our readers" Stating the murderer in a short summary is not needed and as I said an individual episode article can be created with more detailREVUpminster (talk) 19:45, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I should have read the guideline more thoroughly. Including the identity of the murderer as standalone data the way it is now in the article enhances nothing. --gråb whåt you cån (talk) 20:54, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I guess if we were writing articles for each episode we would name the murderer in that case, as part of the plot summary, but here it seems unnecessary as we are only providing a brief outline of the episodes. Paul MacDermott (talk) 18:59, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I shall remove the murderer. I think this is the only short summaries of a detective story that this has been done.

Also copy paste summaries are again being used and question asked within them?? Questions should not be asked in an encyclopedia.REVUpminster (talk) 13:02, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Citation needed[edit]

Although I cannot find any citation to confirm it, it was explicitly stated on the continuity announcement during the credits for episode 4.8 that there would be a fifth series. What do you do in this situation? Lorry43424 (talk) 19:27, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Problem now sorted. Lorry43424 (talk) 10:17, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Series 8 episode titles[edit]

Can anybody confirm the title of 8:1 added with this edit? --Gwadainfo (talk) 13:55, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Gwadainfo: The ones who add episode titles to this page claim the titles come from Netflix. I personally dislike the use of any episode titles on this page as the titles are not used on-screen nor on the BBC website (the most accurate information source), but I have a very strong feeling if I were to remove the episode titles, they would just be re-added. And I am not one for an edit war. ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 16:55, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@ElectrodeandtheAnode: Thx. No need to remove the titles if a source is given, even if it is Netflix. I know that some U.S. and Australian tv networks use titles, as well as German tv networks do, but afaik they regularly air after BBC does. I was not able to find it on other tv networks yet. I will try to confirm by having a look at Netflix' programme schedule. --Gwadainfo (talk) 19:48, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I did not find "Murder on the Honore Express" on Netflix' website, but I found it on RadioTimes. Since RadioTimes is owned by BBC, I am not sure if it is a title or just a teaser. --Gwadainfo (talk) 20:28, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Gwadainfo: I'm happy for the title to stay then as it has been named "Murder on the Honore Express" by Radio Times. They are classed as a reliable source, and it is in the title of the page, so I would accept it as being an episodic title rather than a teaser (I've never known Radio Times to use trailer/teaser titles in their pages either, as far as I know, they only use episode titles). ElectrodeandtheAnode (talk) 20:47, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thx. --Gwadainfo (talk) 20:55, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find the episode titles on Netflix, in fact I can't find this series on there. Also one of the edits says "proposed Episode title "A Stinging Murder"", proposed sounds like someone is making them up themselves. I think we're going to have to stop this editing without references, saying see Netflix" in the edit summary isn't enough. We need a consensus that unless a proper reference is supplied it get removed. That is a principle of Wikipedia, the person adding it, backs it up with a link. - X201 (talk) 08:32, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

All titles up to episode 7:8 are confirmed by several PBS stations (e.g. [1]), though not als PBS stations use titles. Another possible source is TV Guide [2]. Agree to X201. --Gwadainfo (talk) 11:11, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I found episode titles for some series 8 episodes on "hulufilms.stream", but I don't know if this is a reliable source. To me, it does not seem to be an official Hulu website. --Gwadainfo (talk) 21:46, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Episode titles - All series[edit]

The BBC episode guide has no names for any of the episodes. The show has no episode titles at the start of the episode (except for Beyond the Shining Sea). We do not know where the episode titles have actually come from. Were they always there but the BBC chooses not to use them? Were they invented by BBC distribution because streaming services require them? Have the streaming services themselves made them up? We have no reliable sources to tell us the source of the titles. I think we should resort to the most reliable information we have, the episode title when it was broadcast i.e "Episode 1" and remove the other titles. They're mostly unsourced anyway. - X201 (talk) 14:27, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Note about 7 day and 28 day figures.[edit]

When the series 10 viewing figures started appearing, I added a note - as I and others have done before on other articles - to the top of the section, so that any reader would know that the figures displayed were the 7 day figures and not the 28 day figures used in all other series in the article. Without the note a reader may wrongly assume that series 10 had lower viewer numbers than previous series and draw an incorrect conclusion. Flappyschnell has removed the note a number of times, they obviously disagree with it's inclusion, but it's only their most recent removal that had an edit summary explaining their reasons. That's fine, we all have our own opinions, but I think the reason given for removal isn't a good one. Saying that we don't need to make readers aware of the fact they're not comparing apples with apples is wrong. Readers need to know that the viewing figures in series 10 are not the same as series 1-9.

Without the note, the only possible solution I can see is no 7 day figures and we wait for the 28 day figures instead. Another option is that we change all viewing figures for all series to 7-day figures. We're going to need a note somewhere because 28-day data is not available for the early series, so having mixed data for them is also misleading. A third option is we list 7-day and 28-day figures in their own columns.

Either way, I think it's wrong to mix data without alerting the user to the fact that it has been mixed. They need to know what the numbers are referring to. Opinions anyone? - X201 (talk) 09:11, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Series 12 is due to air Jan-Feb of 2023. 2A02:C7F:F8BD:F100:A8A6:7FAF:704B:D80D (talk) 21:10, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Episode 4 of series 12 is set on the fictional island of St Barnabas, which appears to be much smaller than St Marie. The episode includes some overhead shots of the "St Barnabas" scenery. Was this simply filmed in a different part of Guadeloupe or did they actually film it on another island ? RGCorris (talk) 17:49, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Revealing Whodunnit[edit]

Season 12 Episode 2 indicates "whodunnit" (i.e., gives the murderer's name) which should be prohibited (granted, an encyclopedic entry would, ordinarily, include such, but, it isn't necessary, here). Other episodes may have the same issue. Skaizun (talk) 20:19, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia articles are not censored for spoilers per WP:SPOILER, the reveal of whodunnit is an important part of the story for a series like this so should be included for all episodes. Indagate (talk) 20:27, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Colors- Why pink?[edit]

Why were all the colors changed to very bright pink colors? They were fine as blue and green and yellow and SOME pink, but it changed... Orastor (talk) 19:28, 30 January 2024 (UTC)(Nota bene Blocked sockpuppet of Oatsandcream, see investigation)[reply]

An IP editor did it. Feel free to change it to something else (providing that it adheres to MOS:CONTRAST) - X201 (talk) 19:49, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there. I haven't seen the changes made until now and I'm not particularly happy about it. I changed the colour palette to add more different shades and colours because some were too similar. I will give an example , series 2 and series 13. It was better off staying pink than changing it back to another colour way too similar to the almost exact same shade of blue. And I personally felt like there could have been a few slight changes to certain colours. Such as making the bright green a pale green just to add different varieties to it. Plus, the shade of pink I added for series 13 matches more because it is the show's 100th episode, which is big. It's worth noting Ive been a fan since the beginning so I know everything about the show. So I decided to make it stand out to the rest IF readers wanted to see the 100th episode summary. Yes, maybe some of the colours didn't need changing but some definitely were necessary so it wasn't just dull colours like green and yellow. I didn't just add another pink, I also removed other pinks or purples as well because the colour combination wouldn't match what the show is about. In addition, I don't see any dark reds or bright yellows which would be worse then pink in my opinion...
I changed one of the colours to pink and it wasn't too bright. In fact, it matched the colour palette if anything to add more 'excitment' and positivity to it.
Also, I only changed one of the series' categories to pink and it wasn't even that bright so that might be from an editor ages ago.
Fair enough if people who are partially or fully blind won't be able to read it, but otherwise, I think at the very least the pink please should stay and be restored back.
Thanks! 2A00:23C4:F8A0:4C01:D45B:379A:ABAD:8B15 (talk) 18:51, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again. I have gone out of my way and found a pink colour that fits perfectly for series 13 (including the 100th episode). It is not similar to the other shades of pink and is more viewable than having two blue colours of the same on the table. I actually found two but I'm not entirely sure which one would be best either FC60A8 or F991CC. Hopefully you do, but if you don't like this, I can change it to another colour or remove another pink if there is too many even though this is what was done previously.. 2A00:23C4:F8A0:4C01:D45B:379A:ABAD:8B15 (talk) 19:18, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi.
I agree with you. It looks good. Personally, this looks better- I want to keep the cyan of Series 12 and all others. Otherwise way too bright and feminine (for Wikipedia neutrality sake). Also, request that Series 14 be that darker yellow color from before (I know, its a year, but just keeping ahead here). Orastor (talk) 21:57, 31 January 2024 (UTC)(Nota bene Blocked sockpuppet of Oatsandcream, see investigation)[reply]
That is fine! I think series 14 would be good in a darker yellow to balance out the colours. 2A00:23C4:F8A0:4C01:D45B:379A:ABAD:8B15 (talk) 07:49, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
