Untitled[edit]

Hi aymatth2: Thanks for creating the page about Lillian McGeoch. I wanted to ask how you became interested in her? She was our grandmother and we loved her dearly, and she was also a wonderful painter.

Thanks

  • I have been starting articles related to the Women's Art Association of Canada. Lillian McGeoch demanded a bio. I wish it was more complete, but have to stick with published sources. If there are errors, please say so. I wish I had pictures to add, either of the artist or of her works, which would really enhance the article. I see images online that I would love to add as examples of her style, but I can't. Images of pictures on Wikipedia have to be in the public domain, meaning anyone can do anything they want with them. The picture itself of course remains the property of the owner. Broad hint: I would be happy to help with publishing any images :~) Aymatth2 (talk) 01:54, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi aymatth2: How can we send you photos of paintings we have? Or can we upload them to Wikipedia? What is the best way to get photos onto the Wikipedia website? I did not see any errors in your writeup. I (and others) will try to add to it when I have time. Thanks Mike

  • Hi Mike, The best way is to
    • Go to http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
    • Sign up for a Wikimedia account by clicking on "Create account" at the top right of the page and following the instructions.
    • For each picture you have
      • Click on "Upload file" at the left of the page and follow the instructions
      • For "Source" say something like "collection of the uploader"
      • For "Author" say Lillian McGeoch
      • For "Now tell us why you are sure you have the right to publish this work:" select "The copyright holder published this work with the right Creative Commons license" and select the first licence (Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 4.0)
      • Then give the description and you are done. Leave a note here and I can add the picture to the article.
You are saying that you own the copyright to the original picture, and that you are putting the image of the picture into the public domain so anyone can use it. I think it would really help the article. Thanks, Aymatth2 (talk) 12:09, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
