non-Tarzan films[edit]

The overwhelming majority of his non-Tarzan films in the US were B westerns. User:4.231.182.166 IP added --Wittkowsky 11:47, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Well, but that only may be the way of seeing it in the US. The German western after the novels by Karl May e.g. were considered at that time in their country as definite A-Westerns. He was one of the highest paid actors in Germany for these movies. --Wittkowsky 11:47, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Actor Christopher Barker[edit]

I de-linkified the name of Barker's son Christopher in the article. The WP article to which it led was about a 16th century Englishman. I could find no disambiguation page for the name, so I assume there is no article for the actor Christopher Barker, at least on English Wikipedia (judging from his filmography at IMDb, he has worked only in Germany.) Barker's parents[edit]

I'm surprised and happy, to see, now the informations - about Barker's parents/family are almost correctly. A had a long discussion with "Monkeyzpop" about in the past. Because she/he did'nt believed me ... (Guest, March 28 2011) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.89.60.185 (talk) 15:06, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The German biography of Barker cited regarding his parents may well be correct. Nonetheless, in filling out the United States Census forms for 1920, his mother gave her name as "Marion," and his father gave his occupation as "stock broker." Of course, his father was only 32 years old at the time and may have changed occupations later. Nonetheless, the number of servants residing in their home suggests that he was very successful at something! I'm content to leave the information the way the Boller/Boehme bio has it, or perhaps add the variations parenthetically. It might be well for whoever is insisting on the Boller/Boehme version actually to cite that reference at this particular point in the article. Monkeyzpop 09:55, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

References

I have some questions about the references. If references like 'fan-sites' like, for example lexbarker.net or tribute-to-lex-barker.net are not count/not permit, why is a reference to the tribute-site, on the note about Barker's first movie role "Doll face"? Why is it not objectiv to make notes/inform about his knowledges in foreign languages and notes about his person? Those(that he was smart and educated and a good guy/person and his knowledges in foreign languages) are facts, referenced also by people who knowed him and in book-biographies and not swarm or imagin by fans. Guest, 17 January 2008, 14:47

References from fan sites or "tribute sites" are not allowed because these sites are rarely objective. Wikipedia citations and references must be to actual published sources which can be presumed to be academic rather than adoring. As to the objectivity of notes such as his being smart and a "good guy," these are things that cannot be quantified and are purely opinion. One person may think he was smart and a good guy, but another person may think the opposite. It would be like an article on sauerbraten saying that sauerbraten tastes bad. That's only one opinion and cannot be extended to every person. The assertion of his ability to speak various languages was not removed because of objectivity issues, but because no citations were presented. Wikipedia disallows information that cannot be referenced to a specific source. If you can find a book that states he spoke several languages, make a reference note in the article's text and cite the book (and preferably, the page number). Also, please note that because you are posting to an English-language website, it is important that your edits be in proper English. Be prepared to have your edits altered if the English usage is incorrect, even if the facts are correct and well-cited. Thank you for helping to make Wikipedia better and for asking these questions. If you wish help, please ask. Monkeyzpop (talk) 16:31, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Barker's parents

One more note again about the parents. I know with certainty that the authors wrote the book based on a contact with Barker's children especially with his sons. And I think they know what grandmothers first name and grandfathers occupation was. And, excuse me, but my impression from that Census site is, that the site is not free from mistakes. Maybe developed by the transfer, by writing the forms from that time in the past, in the Census site. Now there is a current/updated version of the book published and also referenced that his mothers name was Mariann and his fathers job building contractor. And he was very successful in that occupation. And by the way Lex Barker worked in the firm of his father, for a short time, before he became an actor. I know there is (of course) no site with this facts, but if you wish an exact statement or verification about Barker's parents you should trust that referenced facts. Best regards, a guest (and sorry for my english mistakes) References are: BOLLER/BOEHME: "Lex Barker - die Biographie" 2003 (released 2009) - page 10 and Arild Rafalzik, Fritz Tauber: Lex Barker, Mr. Old Shatterhand – sein Leben – seine Filme. And at last, let me make a last note and ask a last question: The house of Barker's birth in Rye was just the second residence of the family. They lived in New York City. look at http://www.lex-barker.de/index.php?med=scr&lang=eng&menu=leben (the official site, who's owner is Christopher Barker) And the parents are listed by the census for Rye? Is that possible? And I've just a search from the census, with the dates of Lex Barker (as Alexander C. Barker of course). And the result shows him as Alexander J Barker ??? Look here: http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?gl=35&rank=1&new=1&so=3&MSAV=0&msT=0&gss=ms_r_f-35&gsfn=Alexander+C&gsln=Barker+&_81004010=8+May+1919&msbpn__ftp=Rye%2C+New+York%2C+USA&msrpn__ftp=New+York%2C+Westchester+County&_8000C000=Alexander+C+Barker&_80008000=Mariann+Beals&_80010000=Frederica&ne=2 Excuse me, but are you sure, that the census shows correct results all the time? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.89.60.185 (talk) 12:57, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Youtube[edit]

Well, some articles accept Youtube, others don't. -- 88.75.223.243 (talk) 12:35, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, that isn't Lex Barker, who's singing in that video. It's Christopher Barker. Of course his voice sounds very much like his father. But Lex Barker's voice was much lower. (Compare with the sound in his films and especially his songs "Girl in silk and velvet"/"Maedchen in Samt und Seide") or "I'll be on the way to you tomorrow"/"Ich bin morgen auf dem Weg zu dir").

The song in the video is singing by Christopher Barker, on his CD "One moment in time" (published in Germany, around the 90th years). guest, 14:41, 12 February 2009
