Good job[edit]

wrong translation[edit]

"Lehrgeschwader 1 (LG 1) (Demonstration Wing 1)" The German "Lehr" translates as "Training" into English, as much as a "LEHRer" is a teacher! "Evaluation" may be a more precise description that "Demonstration" 80.151.9.187 (talk)

That makes sense. I came here to point out that the one thing they DON'T say anywhere on the page is what a "demonstration" unit DOES. It's given a totally different designation from the standard Luftwaffe units, and given a broad mix of types. It's called 'demonstration" unit, yet serves in active combat. What is its purpose? What do they do? "Evaluation" seems more likely to me as well. Probably a unit tasked with creating tactics and determining safe parameters that each service aircraft can withstand. Which implies that it's also an elite unit, with better than average pilots, something a step below a test pilot, most likely. In wartime, they needed all available combat aircraft and aircrew, so they fought, but they may have continued to serve their primary task as well. Pure speculation only, but it'd be nice if this information was given in the page. It's like describing a airborne unit, telling all about their tables of organization, and listing what fronts they fought on and what objectives they captured, without ever mentioning why they happen to be called "Airborne" units or mentioning parachutes. Kind of important to know to understand what you are reading about.
