South Indian Lehenga[edit]

the south Indian lehenga-choli outfit is given the english title half-sari because of its different names in the different south indian languages. In telugu it is called langa, in tamil it is called paavade. Unlike in north india, in South India, the chunni is draped over the left shoulder, and hangs loose behind the woman, like that of a pallu in a typical south indian sari drape. In south india, young girls who have not reached puberty are not required to wear a chunni. This is due to the fact that they do not have breasts.
