World War II[edit]

I remember reading somewhere that the canal was used for transporting war materials. Particularly, Spitfire and Hurricane engines manufactured in small engineering workshops in London and Mosquito parts constructed in previously furniture workshops. I have not been able to find a reference for this use, or indeed any idea where the materials were going for final assembly. Anyone else any ideas on this? Cheers. Bridges[edit]

FWIW - I constructed it in Excel, with all features (not difficult - I've boated it often enough in the past, and got enough guides to check), then I see how big it is, and reduce the non important items to get a manageable length. Ronhjones ^(Talk) 00:35, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

River Lee Navigation → Lee Navigation — I've boated on this river for over 11 years - it's always been called the Lee Navigation. Sometimes "lumped" with the Stort as the Lee and Stort Navigation - which led to the Lee and Stort River Society which I was a member. Now the canalised section of the Stort is called the Stort Navigation, and the un-navigable part is the River Stort. Therefore ideally this should be the Lee Navigation, with the un-navigable sections the River Lea - that's keeping to the tradition of Lea for the river and Lee for the navigation. BW can't make up their mind they call it River Lee, River Lee Navigation, and Lee Navigation all on one web page. There is a web page about the waterways http://www.leeandstort.co.uk/Lee_Navigation.htm which calls it the Lee Navigation. Lee Valley Park call it Lee Navigation http://www.leevalleypark.org.uk/en/content/cms/leisure/angling/broxbourne_lee_nav/broxbourne_lee_nav.aspx, as well as a regional fishing site http://www.fishsoutheast.co.uk/leenavigation.htm, and another article about the river/navigation http://river-lea.co.uk/ - and the route map on the page says Lee Navigation as well. Locks and weirs[edit]

The article Locks and weirs on the River Lea was just a list and was changed to a redirect to the Lee Navigation article. That is fine, but a few items in the L&W list are not included in the LN route map — Hertford Weir, Ware Weir, Carthagena Weir, Newmans Weir, Middlesex Filter Beds Weir, Bromley Stop Lock, Britannia Stop Lock and Three Mills Wall River Weir.
