@Nehme1499: Naming conventions allow disambiguation by nationality, and in this case Mozambican vs Angolan may be more distinctive than 1981 vs 1985. At minimum, deserves discussion. Station1 (talk) 01:41, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Station1: This would have strong implications on the current naming conventions used by WP:FOOTY, and would require a project-wide discussion. Nehme1499 13:14, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Station1: As probably one of the more prolific closers of sports-related RMs, I can confirm that this is the naming convention for these moves, and that hundreds (thousands?) of them have been processed without controversy since the establishment of that convention. Unless you or another watcher of this page can propose a good reason why not, I plan to fulfill this RM/TR. Vaticidalprophet 15:36, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The guideline clearly says nationality is allowed, and there have been recent RMs where consensus was for nationality. Contested move requests go to the article's talk page for discussion and consensus; it is inappropriate to threaten a unilateral move. Station1 (talk) 18:56, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(sportspeople)#Association_football_(soccer) - "If the footballers have different nationalities, use their nationality in the disambiguation." which is in line with WP:NCPDAB "Years of birth and death are not normally used as disambiguators (readers are more likely to be seeking this information than to already know it)" So moving this to "Lamá (footballer, born 1981)" is against BOTH guidelines. Support per WP:NCSP and standard convention to avoid using nationality for footballer articles wherever possible, given that nationality is fluid and can be confusing. GiantSnowman 11:38, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
