The lake is called "Isabella Lake", not "Lake Isabella"[edit]

According to USGS's Geographic Names Information Service (GNIS) [1], the lake is called "Isabella Lake", and the populated place name is "Lake Isabella".

David Durham also calls it "Isabella Lake": Durham, David L. (2000). Durham's Place Names of Central California: Includes Madera, Fresno, Tulare, Kings & Kern Counties. Quill Driver Books. p. 132. ISBN 9781884995330. {{cite book}}: Cite has empty unknown parameter: |1= (help). So does my Benchmark Maps California Road & Recreation Atlas. Also the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce (ie, their page Isabella Lake Fishing Derby). A quick google search turns up some use of "Lake Isabella" for the lake, but mostly for the town. Another common term for the lake seems to be "Isabella Reservoir". So perhaps I will mention the other names in the lead. Pfly (talk) 22:28, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added "Isabella Lake" as an alternate name. After looking into it it appears that the two names are basically interchangeable. The Army Corps of Engineers, which built the dam and manages the lake, calls it both Lake Isabella and Isabella Lake, sometimes on the same page! For example Lake Isabella Dam, where the very first sentence says "Lake Isabella", but the third paragraph mentions "the Isabella Lake, Kern River, California, Reservoir Regulation Manual". Both names are used on other pages at that Corps of Engineers website.

I have never heard it called "Isabella Lake" in all the years that I've lived there. Just because some people outside of the area incorrectly refer to the place as such does not make it a name for the area. • GunMetal Angel 05:51, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The lake's name is not for local residents to decide. The official name is "Isabella Lake" as can be verified from reliable sources. —Stepheng3 (talk) 01:03, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
