Untitled[edit]

Hi everyone, this is the beginnings of a Wikipedia page on Lacrosse in Australia. Please feel free to add what you know, except that the fact that your club is the bestest in the whole world!!

Adelaide University Lacrosse Club has been nominated for deletion[edit]

You may want to join the discussion Paul foord 05:40, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was merged into the Adelaide University Sports Association page. It seems the consensus was it was not noteworthy enough.Ozdaren 23:41, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to make the article Lacrosse more neutral. It is currently US centric and does not adequately reflect the global nature of the sport. Have your say Talk:Lacrosse#Lacrosse v USA lacrosse Ozdaren 10:01, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Women's Lacrosse[edit]

I've added some more info on women's lacrosse. Luke what do you think of making the introduction to the whole article more informative about the current state of lacrosse in Oz?Ozdaren 10:12, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction[edit]

I'm going to go ahead and change the introduction, the current one is just plain no good, I have written a blurb about Australian lacrosse which I feel is a pretty good starting point for the article to expand and become of a high quality. Wwwhhh 03:23, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am unsure how you can qualify the first line "ranked as the third-best lacrosse nation in the world". Because in women's, we would be ranked first in the world. What's wrong with the original one? It had a quick line about what lacrosse is and then describes what forms of the game are played in Australia. In any case, I will leave it for now, but I think the intro could be a bit more objective. Lukeoz 15:03, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We are undisputably the third-best lax nation in the world (including both genders). In men's lacrosse (which has more players worldwide and hence carries a greater weighting) we have finished 3rd behind USA and Canada in the last 3 World Championships, and in women's we are either #1 or #2 (the same debate exists in women's as to whether we or the USA are #1 after our girls' win in the worlds as does in mens with the USA and Canada after the 'Nucks win in London). Combine the two and we are undoubtedly #3. It doesn't need a token article on the net saying the same thing to count as a source and hence qualify the statement, it is black and white we are #3. Wwwhhh 10:19, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hmmm, i'm not really convinced there!! sorry to be a stickler!! Lukeoz 15:23, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Interstate competition[edit]

  • There are always the u15/17/19 competitions that occur anuually
  • should also mention the paradise social field lacrosse tournaments
  • I have heard speculation of an interstate box league for 2007. Anybody know any more on this one?

Extraneous sections[edit]

There is an adequate amount of content on this page, but inclusion of so many 'expand this section' make make the page look incomplete. I rekon can a few of them; not all of them are necessary. Have the sections here for discussion first/placeholders? Mannny 05:48, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved the extraneous stuff to the page Lacrosse_in_Australia/toaddlater, which can be moved back into the main page when it has been added to properly. Lukeoz 13:41, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Queensland[edit]

I have added a section on Queensland. It is a bit piecemeal as I only have scrappy records. Doug Fox (president of the ALC around 2000) gave me some copies of Queensland lacrosse photos. I have used the information contained on the images to create a picture of lacrosse in the early days. If any one has more details feel free to jump in. I'll try to scan the photos to put on WP Ozdaren 13:47, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

there should be a NSW section[edit]

they title says it —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 211.30.215.89 (talkcontribs) 08:29, 14 July 2007.

I've added a section on NSW. There is virtually nothing of historic merit about lacrosse in NSW on the internet (I searched for a few hours). It's a shame as it seems to have started around the same time as lacrosse in SA. It may take somone who lives in NSW to look up old newspaper articles in the state library etc. Ozdaren 08:47, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New South Wales[edit]

The NSW section has just been edited. Although I agree with a lot of the comments, it is only commentary and is not enyclopaedic. Unless it is edited/tidied up I'll remove it and put in a more concise (and encyclopaedic) version. Ozdaren (talk) 03:18, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NSW and Tasmanian references[edit]

I've added more detail to these areas. There is a wealth of newspaper reports on these states in the http://www.trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper?q= site. NSW had 15 clubs!! Ozdaren (talk) 11:41, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

NSW 18 clubs.Ozdaren (talk) 12:43, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Revamp[edit]

I propose to revamp this article to more adequately reflect the current state of lacrosse in Australia. The article as it stands has mostly historic items at the top and very little about state based club lacrosse (the majority activity in the sport at the moment). Ozdaren (talk) 03:11, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No worries happy to help out where I can Lukeoz (talk) 22:57, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

==References==

I thought this was a very well-written article, but there are exactly zero references. Someone needs to go through and add some - either to one or more books, web pages, etc.
