"Recently"?[edit]

How recently is "recently"? Even if the precise date is unknown, surely the year or, at the very least, the decade could be given, if anyone can find a reliable source for it? — Haeleth Talk 10:30, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will ask some of my relatives at exactly what date they were discovered (as my relatives are from Somaliland) but if i find out the exact date I would not have a reference to back up my evidence. All the references on the article don't give the exact date, all of the references on the article say recently discovered. I think they were discovered early this century between 2000 and 2004 because Simon Reeve visited the area in 2005 and the Minister of Tourism of Somaliland said that the cave paintings were recently discovered (meaning they were discovered before 2005), I know this because I watched the programme but he didn't mention the exact date.. Plagiarism?[edit]

This line seems to be directly lifted from Reeve's article, I suggest some time of replacement unless someone can substantiate grounds for fair use:

"The paintings have strong, vibrant colours and stark outlines"
I reported the copyvio yesterday, and added copyvio tags to the article, but user Abdullah Geelah deleted them without explanation. I've put them back in today.--24.52.254.62 03:03, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly the line above is not Plagiarism, you are allowed if use a couple of information from website but 98% of the article is genuine and I only used two sources. Also, 24.52.254.62 who ever you are stop putting templates on that is classified as VANDALISM like I said not all the article is copyrighted, 98% of the article is genuine. An adminstrator has reported your childish actions. Plus, I only removed the template once, an adminstrator has removed it the second time. I think you should read Wikipedia Policy first before you add templates on any article.Abdullah Geelah 15:07, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The BBC page is not public domain. I've added the copyvio tag for that page back in. It looks to me like the world66 wiki plagiarized the BBC site (the part about "the most significant Neolithic rock art in the whole of Africa"), and then whoever wrote the wikipedia article used that material from the world66 site. Clearly the original copyright is the BBC's (unless you want to believe that the BBC is plagiarizing world66, which seems unlikely), so this really is a copyvio, albeit a second-hand one. There is also material that is only in the BBC site, not the world66 wiki (about "vibrant colors"), so that's more clearcut, definitely a case of plagiarism and copyright violation. By the way, the original note that begins "This line seems..." was not by me, as you seem to have assumed, it was by a different anon, 71.192.103.94 . --24.52.254.62 20:08, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The World66 has been copied from the BBC which is a copyright violation therefore the image will deleted in the next 7 days but the article is genuine and an adminstrator has read through it and it is not copyright so stop putting templates on the article itself. I have rephrased the problematic line; were there any problems beyond this? --RobthTalk 17:44, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures?[edit]

Any hope of illustrating this article? (There's a template around to add this request to talk pages, but at the moment I'm too lazy to look for it.) -- llywrch 17:53, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Somaliland[edit]

I am making a change , seeing as how Somaliland doesn't actually exist. We cannot refrence this as being found in Somaliland as it is legally non-existant.

Well, it seems that the people of Somaliland would suggest otherwise. Somaliland may not be legally recognised but that does not mean it does not exist. Richmd 02:09, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I know this is an old post but I'm replying to Richmd in saying; you don't really know anything about "the people of Somaliland" or my general homeland of the Horn's politics. If you did you'd know that most of the eastern and western areas of the state of Somaliland don't care for or even want "independence", the Awdal region's (western area) people even threaten to secede if the state is ever granted independence and they are very much all for being a part of Somalia. My own ancestors and/or relatives on my paternal side used to rule large swathes of eastern and parts of central Somaliland via the Warsangali sultanate. I mean no offense in this but what "Somaliland" is, is one "clan" that managed to gain control of the central regions of the state just over the last few decades or so and now they want power for themselves and they undermine and even hurt the groups that don't agree with them. Somaliland is not a recognized country and shouldn't be listed here and as a foreigner (whom I can tell knows little about the history of the region) you have no right to even make statements or have opinions here. Leave the Somali Peninsula to Somalis & people who know more about it's history than you do Awale-Abdi (talk) 14:46, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
