it seems like LKL Finals Most Valuable Player Award should be merged with this page. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 04:49, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Both articles consist of one table each and are intimately related. No reason for separate articles. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 18:42, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Oppose: Almost all basketball league articles have separate articles for the league finals and finals league MVP. It's pretty much the site standard. If we start disallowing separate articles for things like league finals MVP awards, then they have to start being merged on dozens of articles, starting with the NBA. And something like the league's finals MVP is a very important award, and is 100% deserving of having its own article. A major league award (most important or second most important) - in fact, not just in basketball, but across all sports in Wikipedia, such awards have their own articles. I also believe this should go to a discussion at the basketball talk project, since it's basketball related, and deciding such articles should be merged with have a huge effect on all basketball articles.Bluesangrel (talk) 19:26, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've added the project tag for Basketball. To me this isn't about setting precedent for all basketball articles, it's about these two articles. By way of comparison the amount of context on NBA Finals would make combining it with Bill Russell NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award less useful for users. If/when LKL Finals builds up that level of context (and sourcing) then it would make sense to split them back out. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 19:42, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but I have seen many times where once a discussion happens to merge articles on a certain basis, then every single time some editors start using that as a site mandate and all the articles start to get merged. I think major awards for sports leagues deserve their own article, as they hold their own weight, merit, and significance. I think it would be more constructive to discuss what needs to be added to this LKL Finals article, rather than to say a league finals MVP of a major European professional league does not deserve its own article. Any suggestions for the LKL Finals article?Bluesangrel (talk) 19:53, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support merge until when and if there is enough content to justify a separate article. WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is not a valid argument. Renata (talk) 00:44, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: I have added more content to the LKL Finals article, since the argument is that it does not contain enough content to have the Finals MVP separated from it.Bluesangrel (talk) 17:22, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I think the comment is the opposite - that there's not enough on the LKL Finals MVP page to support its own page which is why it would be merged to here. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 17:44, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The discussion was that NBA Finals had enough material without NBA Finals MVP being listed on it, and that having the Finals MVP on it would crowd the article. NBA Finals article is analogous to the LKL Finals article, not the Finals MVP article.Bluesangrel (talk) 01:09, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
What was done or not done for NBA articles does not set guidelines and policies for the rest of Wikipedia. Sure, it might be a good example of a possible solution, but it is not a rule that must be followed. Each article stands on its own. What was done for NBA might or might not be a good fit for a given article. Each case needs to be judged separately. In this particular case, there's not enough on the LKL Finals MVP to support its own page. Renata (talk) 01:35, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Both articles have now been updated with plenty of more info and content added. And modeled after NBA Finals and NBA Finals articles. The argument for merging these articles, that neither had any content is no longer pertinent based on they both have enough content as stand alone articles. And this is the only argument that has been given by anyone for why these articles should be merged, with in fact it originally being said the articles could remain separate once they had more content added to them - which has now been done on both articles.Bluesangrel (talk) 03:07, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Bluesangrel: I saw EuroLeague Finals Top Scorer. If the LKL Finals MVP had the kind of work that page did I would agree they would belong as separate articles. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 20:04, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"The two articles already have the same amount of information.Bluesangrel (talk) 21:54, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I added more to the article (player positions and whether the finals MVPs were on championship winning teams or not).Bluesangrel (talk) 23:51, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
