Kyle's 2020 incident

Wait, Wait, Wait...He said the n-word, and he lost his sponsors, Chevy and his part in the Team? F1 Mercedes Fan (talk) 22:36, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

Lockdown/Protection

Can we please have one of the moderators lockdown the page from editing until further notice due to vandalism? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:601:1700:9320:ACFE:87B1:F607:641E (talk) 03:01, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

This has been done, but the proper place to make these requests is at Requests for Page Protection. --Michael Greiner 03:14, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

Could you at least allow the page to be updated to reflect yesterday's use of a racial slur by Kyle Larson. I get locking down due to vandalism, but not allowing those details to be added to the page is against the foundation of Wikipedia itself. A link to the source video and AP article should be allowed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arob157 (talkcontribs) 13:30, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

Feel free to make an edit request. As of last night, I didn't see any reliable sources reporting it but if the AP has an article, that would be one. I don't think the video would be necessary if a source is found. --Michael Greiner 13:39, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

The article is only semi-protected. Nothing is stopping either of you (or any other confirmed user) from adding it (and someone should). My Edit request comment was only because that editor is not confirmed. If it isn't added by later this afternoon, I will but I don't have the time right now to get the prose/formatting right. --Michael Greiner 16:04, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

The page has been updated with the occurrence as well as some consequences he has faced in the time since the occurrence. Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 17:51, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

Termination from GMS Racing

A recent edit indicates that Lawson's deal with GMS Racing was terminated, but the link does not seem to support that assertion, just that he was fired from Chip Ganassi Racing. Also, the edit indicates that Lawson is "no longer permitted to drive a Chevrolet" which seems factually wrong and is not supported by the reference. Yes, Chevrolet terminated their sponsorship but they can't stop Larson from driving a Chevrolet.

I'm new to Wikipedia so forgive me if I have gone about raising this issue incorrectly.Johnnycakes999 (talk) 19:10, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Pinging @Cavanaughs:, he has done significant work on the article recently and may be able to shed some light on the situation. Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 18:57, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for bringing that to my attention, Johnnycakes. I did look at Chevrolet's statement about Larson and you're right how they say that they "terminated" Larson, so I guess that can mean if he does recover (for lack of a better word) from this incident and does return to racing in NASCAR, then Chevrolet could bring him back in their fold with a new contract if they wanted to. But for probably at least the rest of 2020, he won't be with them. I'll change the wording in the article. The reason I used "not permitted to" instead of "terminated" was because out of all these articles I've read on Larson, I just saw the word "terminate" so much that I was getting tired of seeing the same word over and over and wanted to change up the wording, but I see why the wording I used confused you and seems inaccurate, so I'll fix it. Thanks again, and welcome to Wikipedia, BTW! Cavanaughs (talk) 20:40, 14 April 2020 (UTC)Cavanaughs

@Cavanaughs Thanks -- I think its an improvement because Chevy can not prevent anyone from driving its cars, it can only refuse to sponsor them (pay them) for doing so. Along those same lines, it doesn't appear that there is any support for the idea that GMS Racing has taken any action to "cancel their deal" with Larson. True, NASCAR currently will not permit him to race, but that doesn't mean that GMS Racing had a provision in its contract with Larson which would allow it to "cancel their deal." Whether a contract can be terminated or not depends on the terms of the contract. It could be a "no cut" guaranteed contract regardless of whether he is able to race, permitted to race, etc. Bottom line, I have seen no announcement from GMS Racing indicating that the contract is cancelled. Johnnycakes999 (talk) 18:47, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

I’m a little uncomfortable including the phrase “it is unknown whether his deal has been terminated” on the page, as that’s borderline WP:CRYSTAL. I believe that it is best to let the situation sit until the bounty races pass and see if he is entered for them. Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 21:14, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

Vandalism on the name infobox

Why are 3 anonymous editors putting in “Hard R” into the name BLP infobox? Kaseng55 (talk) 07:25, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

Likely kids with nothing better to do and feel like making a WP:POINT about his past transgression. I remember being 12 and dumb. I'll request protection. -"Ghost of Dan Gurney" 18:24, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

Personal Life Reference

On Kyle Larson’s page (the NASCAR driver), under his personal life section, there needs to be a reference or addition to his controversial use of the N-word. That was a polarizing yet equally important development to where he is now after being dropped from multiple sponsors and having to go through diversity training. Moralesnatcher (talk) 19:30, 20 February 2022 (UTC)

Agreed. I love you like a fat kid love cake (talk) 18:59, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

It's already mentioned in prose in the career section; it affected his career more than his personal life, and happened while doing something related to his job as a racing driver and brand ambassador, so I disagree that another mention of it should be made in the personal life section. -"Ghost of Dan Gurney" 01:10, 16 May 2022 (UTC)
