Date of death[edit]

Isn't it standard on wikipedia te report thay day the body was found (unless it's obviously not the DOD) as DOD until otherwise stated? DrKilleMoff (talk) 22:23, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes and no. It is reported as "date body found", yes. But, no, that "found" date does not "stand in" as the DOD. Mother vs. step-mother[edit]

An IP editor recently pointed out that Marie St. John was Kristoff St. John's step-mother, not his biological mother. For all I can tell there's no secondary source for the biographical information the IP editor provided on the biological mother, but he's right in that Marie is indeed Kristoff's step-mother, compare [1] and [2]. However, the first of those sources also quotes St. John as referring to Marie as "my mom", and sources from the New York Times to Fox News agree in calling her "his mother". Should we note in the article that she's not his biological mother? I do not think that such a clarification improves our readers' understanding of St. John and would thus support staying with calling her "his mother", as we currently do, in line with both the highest-quality secondary sources and, apparently, St. John himself. I agree. Your proposal is more aligned with the "self-identification" we require for controversial content such as religion and ethnicity. At the extreme end, as St. John's mother is not independently notable, we could remove mention of her altogether per WP:BLPNAME. Both options, keeping the article as is or removing the name completely, are preferable to shoehorning in poorly sourced information which contradicts the subject's own preference expressed prior to his death. He clearly refers to St. John as his mother in reliable sources, regardless of who birthed him.-- Jezebel's Ponyo^{bons mots} 21:34, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
