Jews in Kremenets[edit]

Would it be good to mention the former Jewish population of Kremenets? Jd2718 14:28, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly. It appears this has since been resolved. --Bossi (talkgallerycontrib) 20:17, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Isaac Stern[edit]

As Stern put it so wittily in his memoir, My First Seventy Nine Years, the time of his birth coincided with the two week period that his town, Kreminiecz, was Polish. A week later it would have been Russia again.

The above quote was from Horthistoria, Three Jewish Violinists and California, 8 September 2005. I'm interested in knowing about this "two week period" during which Isaac Stern was born. According to our article, Kremenets was part of Poland from 1921 to 1939 (18 years, not 2 weeks), but Stern's date of birth was 21 July 1920, when it was still presumably Soviet/Russian/Ukrainian territory. -- JackofOz (talk) 10:20, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I for one think the Revolution and its impact on the Jews, as well as the persecution by White Russians and Bolshevics alike are important to mention. My family fled Kremenetz for the US during this period, and we have no knowledge of what happened there in the aftermath. miltonBradley 13:44, 27 December 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cpoticha (talkcontribs)

Removed referenced part[edit]

I have removed a referenced part of the article, with Ukrainian historian blaming Poles for misfortunes and misery of Galicia. Volhynia never was part of Galicia, furthermore since 1793 it was ruled by Russians. Tymek (talk) 04:56, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Kremenets

Kremenets is a city in the Ternopil Oblast of western Ukraine. It is the administrative center of the Kremenets Raion, and lies to the north-east of Pochaiv Lavra. The city is situated in the historic region of Volhynia and features the 12th-century Kremenets Castle. During the Mongol invasion of Kievan Rus' in 1240 and 1241, Kremenets was one of few cities that Batu Khan failed to capture. This photograph depicts Kremenets as seen from Castle Hill, with the former buildings of the Krzemieniec Lyceum in the foreground.
