Arrangement of sections[edit]

Might I suggest changing the section order to:

  • Traditional weaving
    • Types of Shuttle
      • Suction shuttle
      • Hand-threaded shuttle
  • Shuttle kissing
  • Health
    • Tuberculosis
    • Other occupational health issues

I think it would help the general reader to establish (in order): what we are talking about, what shuttle kissing is, the consequences thereof. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 12:07, 17 May 2013 (UTC)  Done[reply]

If it reads better I am perfectly happy to see it done.
  • I am still getting my head round what to call the shuttles- I can't find good references. there is a third type the self threading/ed shuttle as found in a Northrop. Here is a diagram- I need to clean up the svg, and get a definitive translation. I suspect that this section will be extended.

  • I can use this a template to draw the other two
  • Is the eye a tube? - I had problems with this so left it out. The eye on the shuttles I have seen are more like ceramic rings- they don't have the length to make them a tube. But some description is needed.
Yes - if anyone can provide a better description I'm happy, but as you say some description is needed. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 14:47, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • There is another section that needs to be added - Media. Kissing the Shuttle is the title of some folk music songs and I believe a group. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ClemRutter (talkcontribs) 14:13, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Horrocks[edit]

Is there a definitive tie-up between Horrocks, Crewdson and Sons, Centenary Mill (aka Horrockses) and John Horrocks (politician)? I could not find anything on Crewdson in Wiki when I was doing a bit of tidying at lunch-time, but John was in the right place at the right time. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 13:09, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have a book- Dickinson 2002- There is a lot of material here- I will keep an eye open for the link. There needs to be a separate Horrock s article which is why I left the redlink in the first place.

Now the distraction is over-- [1] I can start to harvest it. -- Clem Rutter (talk) 13:24, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Grace's Guides: http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Horrockses,_Crewdson_and_Co - will this do?-- Clem Rutter (talk) 16:07, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That ties it up nicely - I think I can feel a stub or a few edits coming on! Martin of Sheffield (talk) 16:55, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removed line from Tuberculous section[edit]

I removed this line from the Tuberculous section because it is self-referential which is best avoided. I also removed it because I don't think the photos actually make that very clear because nowhere in the article or in the photo captions does it mention any years or even Jowetts (which I assume is a shuttle manufacture ring company?) AgneCheese/Wine 01:33, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think that "Jowett, England" stamped on the lower illustration is a good clue to the maker. Likewise 10/73 does tend to imply they were manufacturing them in October 1973. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 10:05, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Also, describing the contents of our images is not self referential in the context of the guidelines cited. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:40, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have changed the caption to reflect maker and date and rm'd the self reference. Not a big issue. I have zapped the {{cn}}s. Just got to write the final stub. -- Clem Rutter (talk) 17:51, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
